According to Ric Bucher of ESPN, it is a matter of when more than if they made a trade ahead of February's deadline.

Bucher says that Tyrus Thomas is available and that they may readdress trade talks for Pau Gasol

Andrei Kirilenko - Utah Jazz
Lamar Odom - LA Lakers
Shawn Marion - Phoenix Suns

The Suns have had internal discussions about Utah's Andrei Kirilenko, the Lakers' Lamar Odom and Memphis' Pau Gasol, according to a source. But the Suns might not want to help the rival Lakers, while the Jazz and Grizzlies would be reluctant to take Marion without a strong indication that he would re-sign with them.

Jermaine O'Neal - Indiana Pacers
Richard Jefferson - NJ Nets

The Bulls, for example, would no doubt love to have a low-post monster like Stoudemire. Chicago could offer a package of, say, Ben Gordon, Andres Nocioni, Tyrus Thomas and a draft pick for Stoudemire. But the Suns would need a big man to replace Stoudemire (sorry, Bulls fans, but Ben Wallace has $28.5 million left on his contract and doesn't fit Phoenix's system). The Pacers have a five-time All-Star forward/center in Jermaine O'Neal, but there might be concerns that he holds the ball too long to be a good fit in Phoenix's offense (a characteristic that applies to Gasol as well). The Nets could offer former Arizona star Richard Jefferson, but he wouldn't bring any financial flexibility either.

I would love to get one of Kirilenko, Marion or O'Neal. But the price is going to be way too high, and the salaries we have probably do not fit (unless we're sending back a whack of them).

I think O'Neal is very obtainable, without having to give up one of our core players (Bosh, Ford, Calderon and Bargnani).

I've heard nothing about Amare. What's the source there?

With uncertainty surrounding TJ, we don't have any valuable pieces to trade anymore (ie, Calderon).

Hard to see us doing anything but some minor dealing.

Hey suspersub, how about expanding this to cover other important factors that'll influence what trades go down, such as which teams have trade exceptions, who are the large expiring contracts, etc? I'd do the digging myself but I'm at work and can't skip off for long enough to do it correctly.

But do you not feel that a front court of JO and Bosh
with a backcourt of TJ and Calderon would make us contenders?

It is highly unlikely that we trade for large contracts or older players. The latter don't fit the program. The former don't fit the budget if you intend on bringing back Jose and Carlos. It's as simple as that. We have little to no room to manouevre next year. For us to take on a large salary, we would have to get a team to take some of our large contracts for next season, and AP is pretty well the only one of them that teams would take based on talent and good health, maybe Kapono, too. Garbo, Graham, Baston and Rasho can only be thought of as salary cap throw-ins, so it's hard to imagine who we can trade to get a top player in.

Sorry to burst everybody's balloon, but it would be better to focus on second or third tier talent who we might get if we send out Joey Graham, possibly with our first rounder.

While better- how can you not get better with a trade idea that adds a JO for a developing player? - we would still be weak and inconsistent on the wing, and a poor perimetre defending team. Not better than Boston or Detroit, in other words.

Gilbert Arenas is another one that's in the early stages of rumours.

Ever since he made that comment about potentially opting out this summer and signing, for less, with a team that wants to win...his name will definitely come up more often in rumours. Especially, if the Wizards continue to play above .500 basketball without him.

I don't see Colangelo being a big player at the deadline unless there is a steal to be had.

JO would help our perimeter D immensely. If wing player are more timid to go to the lane, they become must easier to guard. This is a big reason why Boston is so good defensively -- the *knowledge* of KG defending the post chances the way opposing players approach the game and it gives the perimeter defenders a huge confidence boost.

That said, it definitely wouldn't give us much help offensively, still having no outside threat that can consistently create his own shot, and adding a starting big who tends to occupy the exact same space on the floor as Bosh.

Some of these players were part of rumours in the summer but are probably off the block now.

Amare for example was rumoured to be traded if the Suns got Garnett. And with KG obviously off the table, I don't see a lot of players that they could upgrade on Amare out there.

Dagger what do you think our chances are of trading Delfino? If we re-sign it will obviously be for more that his current value. Do you see him being packaged along with possibly Rasho, Graham, and maybe Dixon for someone before the deadline?

Going by all the stuff I see on the internet:

Tracy McGrady is available, but only at a high price. The entire Knick roster is on the block. Probably everyone in Miami except Shaq & Wade, too. Pietrus rumours keep floating around. Everyone in Milwaukee except Bogut & Yi are available, but Simmons & Gadzuric specifically seem to be on the block. Larry Hughes is available to anyone who wants him. Elton Brand and Sam Cassell rumours pop up frequently too, with Cassell seeming likely. No doubt JR Smith can be had cheap. Houston has about three stupid shoot-first point guards too many. Minnesota's got some expiring deals + Toine, but it may not be worth their while to get rid of the expirings unless it really helps their rebuild along.

I know this is just a dream, but can someone get us Joe Johnson please?

I think his comments are also what make him untradeable. Unless a team is very sure they can resign him, why would they trade for a guy they'll lose for nothing in the summer.
