This appears to be a very recent quote from Ukic. It seems at odds with recent pronouncements from Air Canada Center that Ukic was signed, sealed, and deliverable. Can anyone shed any light?

"In the summer, negotiations will increase but lots of things have to happen at the same time in order for something to happen. ... I'm at Roma just for this season and then it will be up to Barcelona to decide. If they want me they will have to negotiate with Barcelona."

My guess is that he doesn't want to slight anyone in Europe, so he's giving the character guy answer of, "I'm playing for who I'm playing for, who knows about next year."

I think Barcelona loaned him to Roma. I never quite got an answer to that question when I asked last time.

Well put.

I think he's basically pointing out that he can't negotiate anything with the Raps, until the Raps negotiate with Barcelona.

And even if the Raps and Barcelona have spoken, until something is finalized, nothing is signed or sealed.

The pronouncements of a 'done deal' were made by RealGM-ers based on speculation in Doug Smith's blog.

There are NO pronouncements coming out of the ACC.

I said it in the other threads and I'll say it again, there has been no official deal reached between Roko and the Raptors as of this moment.

Yeah, I never had the impression the Roko was coming over. He's in the middle of a season, why would he be let go?

Tks. I think the quotes in the yahoo article are the same ones in this thread.

Perhaps we can merge?

I don't see Barcelona playing hardball with the Raps, since Roko will be in his final season. Better to get something for him this year, than losing him for nothing next year. In addition Barcelona already has a couple of good point guards in Pepe Sanchez and Jaka Lakovic.

Here's a recent article that profiles Roko, and seems to hype him up to be in the same class of PGs that he was drafted with (Paul, Deron, Felton, etc). It's a good read.

Also, who was it that said Ukic will be the 2nd or 3rd best PG of that 2005 draft? Was it Chad Ford? I can't remember. He will be a solid backup based on his Euroleague play alone this year, and if he does come over this summer, it will be interesting.

Decisions and threads revolving around the longterm health of TJ, the contract of Calderon, and Roko's ability to play the 2 spot, are already rampant, and nothing has even happened yet. Provides for an interesting 2008, but I'm glad we're in this situation.

What's ur problem?

You remind me of a guy who I am playign pick up with who acts like a leader, tells everyone what to do and where to be, shoots the most but is a lot worse than he thinks he is, plays no defence and goes maybe 2 for 20 in the game and after every shot he misses acting like UGH, its just a bad day, "usually they fall for me", I got to keep shooting!

You add nothing positive to this board.

lmao ok..... I honestly would care less about European players. All the scouts say so much stupid crap about these comparions, barely half ever come true. BTW most players in Europe are quite soft and less physical when playing. The real deal is at Rucker Park, where guys like Rafer Alston play. Street ball is much better, its very sad that scouts rather go to Europe and look for players, when their is enough talent coming from Rucker Park. if you honestly seen most of the players play, they would actually be a lot sucessful in NBA.

I don't think Rafer would be the best example of an overly successful NBA player.

lol......ur sayin streetball is better than european basketball???????? the last time I check, the euroleague is the second best league in the world and there's a reason why the U.S. hasn't won gold in the last couple of international competitions

Not at all...many streetballers have tried to go pro (usually through the developmental league), and the vast majority have failed miserably. That's why Rafer was considered such a phenomenon when he stuck with the Raps: he was the rare streetballer that was able to adapt his style to the NBA.

Take a look at Grayson Boucher, who was a star on the And1 tour...he's currently the back-up PG on the CBA's Atlanta Crunk:
