"Sources around the league have told CBSSports.com that there are internal discussions being held in Phoenix regarding the availability of star center Amare Stoudemire, who can opt out of his current deal following the 2009-10 season. According to sources, there is one faction within the organization willing to deal the two-time All-Star, while another is dead set against it.

While Stoudemire has improved as a defender, whispers that his increasing frustration with not being the focal point of the team's fast-paced offense have become a distraction -- and could be a reason some within the organization would be willing to move him if the right offer comes along.

Something is obviously amiss, and chemistry seems to be the major issue. So where does this leave Stoudemire? Even those in favor of shipping him out know he's among the most feared big men in the game, so getting back equal value is a must, regardless of how badly the Suns need a facelift. If GM Steve Kerr is swayed to make a move, it will definitely take someone along the lines of Memphis' Pau Gasol or Toronto's Chris Bosh to get a deal accomplished. "

To me, it looks like the journalist is just randomly name-dropping all-star players. there is NO way a Bosh for Amare trade would take place. doesn't make sense.

but....would Toronto have the pieces and/or does it make sense to try to get Amare in a trade?

Bosh can opt out after the 09-10 season as well, if my math is correct, so I'm not so sure that should be an issue. I still wouldn't trade Bosh for Amare.

Amare Stoudemire is not a franchise player. He's more of a secondary star who really can't do anything on his own. I would never trade Bosh for him.

This will never, ever happen for a whole list of reasons - defence, character, leadership, injury risk. Boshes (unlike Bosc pears) don't grow on trees.

I'd rather focus on things that could happen. How about Bargs + Rasho for Amare?

We already know that Amare is BC's guy and that BC loves him.

I've always said, Amare and LeBron are the only guys I'd trade Bosh straight up for.

Amare may be more of a pure talent, but no way I trade CB4 for him. Bosh is a positive in the locker room, Amare is a negative, or at best, someone that needs to be continually managed.

On a side note and living in pure fantasy land, how scary would it be to see Howard playing with Marion or Amare.

Well, if Toronto traded Bosh for Amare, that would mean that we now have a center, and Bargnani could play his natural position. I would rather keep Bosh and let Bargs continue developing as a center. Bosh is really one of the best characters in the league, and has continuously improved his game every year. Bosh has that fierce determination that will make him a top 5 big men in the league. Not that Amare wouldn't also be in the top 5 as well, but it just doesn't make any sense to trade a franchise player for someone who scores a tonne of easy points in the pick and roll with the best PG.

Plus we all love Bosh, so no deal.

since Gasol is rumoured to be on the block, one can assume the "reporter" is suggesting a Bosh for Amare trade.

There has been a negative buzz around Amare for some time. It's a complex issue to define, but he seems to crave the spotlight - and endorsements - that would come if he was clearly a top 5 player like KG or Kobe. Recall how he fired his agent because he didn't like the shoe contract that was negotiated for him. His mother is the mother of all NBA mother head cases. He's a great player, no doubt, a bigger offensive force than Bosh - though no better defender and possibly worse. Whereas Bosh, IMO, is a good teammate and co-worker, who is comfortable sharing the glory, Amare would like to score 30 ppg and that means he might be a black hole on the Raptors. There is also his knee injury - how does microfracture surgery impact him down the road.

I'm not going to argue that Amare is a slightly bigger talent right now, but Bosh keeps elevating his game, and I think Amare has plateaued albeit at a very high level. Chris is here, popular, strong character, with some upside.

I think you stick with Chris, period.

It may be suggestive, but it certainly doesn't suggest to me that he is saying Chris is in play. He's just saying it would take a talent of Chris' calibre.

You get a great talent in return but seriously, why would you want to trade Bosh. He posts 20/10 seasons already. He gets better at facets of his game each year, and he is rapidly showing that he has a pretty good personality that will put the Raptors back on the US media map.

With Amare on the other hand, you are dealing with a guy who is being considered for trade because he is being selfish and doesn't like that Nash is the name on his team. Same with Marion. Selfish attitudes that put the person above the team.
