Request for information about Carlos Delfino
Hello all - I was just inquiring about Carlos Delfino. I know he's been having a decent year this year. I haven't seen any Toronto games this year, so I don't know what type of player he is.
What's his contract situation? Does it look like he's going to be part of Toronto's long term plan?
Changed title to make it more descriptive.

Consistent defender always looking for the steal while grabbing defensive rebounds in traffic as well with his rebounding intuition.
He also provides the Raps with decent shooting but prone to go into cold spells that he tries to shoot himself out of. Fairly effective slasher but he should be slashing more often.
Overall he's given the Raps quality from the bench and is showing signs that he can become that wing man who can create from broken plays. He seems to work really well with Kapono as Carlos is a good passer and gets Jason the ball in a spot where a quick release is possible.
His attitude is detrimental when he gets a cheap call against him as those calls seem to throw him off his game. He plays with a chip on his shoulder.

Wow I'm actually kind of surprised anyone would want to keep Graham over Delfino, sure Delfino shoots a worse percentage than Joey but he does everything else better, including defence, rebounding, slashing, passing, etc. etc. and if I'm not mistaken Delfino is actually younger than Joey "I Need 6 Years to Finish College" Graham

No i didnt actually say to keep Joey or Rasho, I said if both guys cant be traded (which is unlikely) than we have no choice but to give up Delfino to free agency.

Are you kidding me? The Raptors tried to sign the guy to a reasonable contract, but he rufused (thats why we signed Hump). If he continues playing great, he is going to want a big contract, frankly the Raptors do not have that much money to do so, if they want to sign Jose. I GUARANTEE YOU, either Delfino or Jose will walk to free agency. But in my opinion, I am very certain 100% Delfino is going to walk away for nothing.

RAPTORS = HAVE LITTLE MONEY
DELFINO & JOSE = WANT BIG MONEY
RESULT = LET DELFINO WALK.
The Raptors can go over the cap to sign both, and while it might force the team to pay luxury tax (though not much), MLSE has proven willing in the past to do so if it makes the team better; the revenue at the gates, from television and merchandise (not to mention franchise value, which is the biggest focus business-wise) are sufficient compensation, if Delfino proves to worth the bill.

**** your asterisk.

There are some things that will affect this.
Dixon, DMartin comes of the books as well as Alvin Williams I think.
Rasho may be willing to renegotiate his last year of contract for less money but an extension.
BC is good at trading expiring contracts and may be able to wheel a 2 for one situation... Joey G and Dixon for another expiring contract?? Plus he may sell our first round lick for this year depending on where it is.

I'm not sure he turned down an extension - dunno where that came out.
My guess is he will be looking for the full MLE or close to it.
And his FG numbers look pretty weak, but it was really just one stretch of really bad shooting. He's been on a good run lately and should finish the season somewhere near .430 or .440, which is certainly acceptable.
I am assuming that the Raps are planning on keeping him around.

Hank Scorpio he did turn it down. It was on Doug Smith's blog one time I belive. But you can check around the net if you want. BC tried to sign this guy right when he signed Hump. The reason why Delfino turned it down was because he did not know whether he wanted to stay or return to Europe. BC wanted to sign him then, because he knew Delfino would turn out to be good (which he is now) and that he would have gotten him for a pretty decent pickup like Hump.

You're right, to a point. Smith did touch on an extension for Delfino; apparently both BC and Delfino/his agent agreed against signing an extension before the season. Mutual advantages; Delfino gets the chance to prove that he deserves a big contract, and BC gets to ensure that Delfino is going to be worth some sort of extension. So far, it's working out for Delfino, as I think that his play has earned him a larger contract than what he would have received had he extended in the summer.
