How much do we need to spend on Jose Calderon this summer?

In my opinion, regardless of what you think about who is the better PG for the Raptors, Jose will command a higher market price than T.J., because you have to consider the "risk" factor of signing T.J.
That said, I don't see Jose getting Nash money...yet. So I would say between 9-10 mil per year for 3 years with 4th year team option is reasonable.
What do you guys think, discuss!

BC definitely has to make a decision on who will be his number one lead guard ... Calderon's perceived value is at a high right now ... No question, he's worth more than the 6M/yr Kapono's getting ... Some will argue that he's worth more than the 8M/yr TJ's getting ... If BC plans to keep both, I'd say 7.5M/yr, because paying a backup more than your starter makes no sense ...

i think he deserves between 8-10 million. I say you start the bidding at even steven (tj money) because you want to see if he will buy into the the team concept. It's true that you should never pay a backup more than a starter. If this does happen, you should probably explore trade options.

he'll make between MLE and 8 million

well...are u talking about what he deserves or what he will possibly get?

because, he is a restricted free agent, that means any teams can offer him watever they want, and if he signs then we have to match their offer if we want to keep him.

so if the charlotte bibcats offer him a maximum contract, and we want to keep him, we have to match it.

but if jose has a heart, and is as selfless as appears, he might not sign with any other team at all and accept wat he deserves, 8-10 a year. im sure he would like that.

$8-10M. Are you kidding me????

It's going to be for the MLE, simple as that. Maybe even less than the MLE if Jose and BC can come to a deal.

I don't agree with the $8-10M either, but he'll get something around that because of his "percieved value" ... but I don't think Jose will settle for the MLE, he'd be stupid if he did ...

Not after seeing Kapono's contract and his contribution to this team

Do you guys honestly think Jose will settle for 8 million and play as back up after the way he's been playing this season? We can't keep both PGs because Jose has got a taste of what its like to run his own team. I really doubt he'd be happy to play backup as long as he is part of the team.

absolutely no team will offer jose a max deal. that's just insane. if he gets more than tj, i'd be stunned. you simply cannot have two guys making that much money and sharing minutes. tj and jose are great players, but you'll never be able to address your other weaknesses if you spend 16+ million a year on two point guards, especially if you already have a max money power forward...

whatever it takes, IMO. At least TJ money would be fair to me, and I may even feel compelled to go over, if we have to match that high. My opinion might change if and when TJ comes back, but I don't know how you can really count on him. Does he even want to play? I tend to think he's struggling with that right now, maybe I'm misinformed but that's all I've been able to string together. Our Pg position went from very strong to very perplexing.

I'm not saying it's not understandable, but TJ's been cleared and no timetable for return is even being discussed. I think people feel it's too sensitive an issue to discuss. Not to sound cold, but the unknown of this "situation", not TJ so much but the "shituation", is really holding the squad for ransom. Let say he does return. We're in a horse race with not much distance between 4th and 8th right now we can't really afford growing pains to bring TJ back at the expense of wins, unless we creates some distance. So TJ may have to play back up minutes when he returns, at least until he's up to speed. Will those minutes be enough for us to evaluate him before the trade deadline, would it be enough to make him the least bit attractive to any team in the league? so now we have twio PG's where at one time we had the option of trading one for an upgrade at another position, and now we have to look at trading just to acquire a second PG that we may or may not need. And we may not even have a grasp on our PG situation by the end of the season, so how can we really make informed decision about Calderon. Or situation went from enviable to unenviable on Dec 11th. but at the same time reports are he's no more susceptible since then then he was before so I guess our situation was just as unenviable before but we just didn't realize it until the shoe dropped. We were certainly led to believe those issues were in the past. don't get me wrong, I hope TJ returns and is better than ever. I think he's was great player. I'm just anxious to see him return, and each day not timetable is given, i wonder just what is our PG situation.

yeah.. it'd be like the Leafs all over again.. Mats Sundin as your max player.. and lots of money tied up on 2 D.. (Kaberle and McCabe).. though in reality.. it's 3 D (Kaberle, McCabe, Kubina)

So he may potentially be an all star this season and some of you think he'll get the MLE?

Do you think the Jose all star talk bothers TJ? Or do you think he's happy for Jos
