Very Good Interview with Jim Rome of ESPN.

Talks about his recent stretch where he has been tearing it up. Being the Franchise player and also replys to the question would another bigger market interest you?? (ala Dallas)

i absolutely can't stand it when these american guys mention "moving to a big market" to Bosh. I mean does any americans even realize Toronto is a Huge market! not only is Toronto one of the biggest cities in North America, Toronto is also considered a global city and is one of the top financial cities in the world.
Toronto is the fourth largest media centre in North America (behind New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago), with four conventional dailies and two free commuter papers in a greater metropolitan area of about 5.5 million inhabitants....
I just can't stand these idiots! they have no idea what they're talking about and i think one day, they might push Chris away.....

lol. . .igloos!!! =) DOn't fret so much about ignorant media. The important part of that interview is that Bosh plays here and a guy like BC is here because he isn't ignorant and will make this market into a Bball super market! I SEE THIS CITY BEING THE NEXT KNICK OR LAKER TYPE FAN BASE.
So i just watched the hilite reel from last nights game. Bosh's game was one of the best games I've seen a Raptor play. From the power game to the fade away from the sky hook to the drea shake. The guy did it all. I've not seen the same kind of versatility from any raptor player ever. That was an awesome display andif that is Bosh's max potential. . .wow! he's the MVP.

I was gonna make a post just saying that. They make it sound like he took one for the team and sold himself short by signing with Toronto. The interview was stupid too, I never really liked Jim Rome's style of talking, its like he's forcing himself to sound that way.

Completely agree. The local media pressure on the Raptors is one of the highest in the league if not THE highest. I remember even Raptor fans suggesting that the Raptors would be "overwhelmed" by the media attention in the playoffs last year. The Raptors have as you said 4 daily newspapers, 3 national sports TV stations and countless other media members following them to practically every game. Then you have a team like say Portland, with one beat writer, and one TV station following them around. Some teams, the Clippers come to mind, don't even have a newspaper that bothers to send a beat writer on East Coast road trips. The Raptors face unprecedented media attention on a daily basis, but since it's all Canadian we don't seem to appreciate it.

I just wanted to respond to your well-done Chris Bosh interview recently as a fan of the Raptors. A lot of Toronto fans do take exception in the characterization of the city of Toronto being some small town outfit. It is a hockey town no question with a budding fan base that is tops on the number of 'hits' on nba.com and on fan forums such as realgm.com. Here's an excerpt from one of those forums that was in a thread about your interview:

See, there's no reason for that. It's a nice email and all but it's not going to do anything except make us look like we have an inferiority complex. He's not going to change his mind even if the Raps pull a 3-peat.

I see this claim made on this site all the time...now I am not trying to dispute it but can you provide some evidence? You or anyone else for that matter. And don't say google it b/c i've and get no reliable hits.

Im surprised Chris Bosh didn't try to defend Toronto. It's not like we are the worst market, by no means we are.

Seriously though, how does an intellectual individual such as yourself become prone to the timeless ignorant American perception of Canada, more notably Toronto, being "small" when it is one of the major cities in the world on many levels (economic, entertainment, population, culture diversity, ect..).
CB4 made a very smart decision in sticking with Toronto opposed to leaving for a much "larger market", when in fact, playing for Toronto means you are also representing Canada in the NBA. That's a pretty big market.
Also take into account the interest the online world has for the Toronto Raptors. This organization quite possibly has the largest contingency of interest on this platform in the NBA. Factor in the fact this team also has possibly the largest European interest and you can quickly figure out that CB4 has a great platform for marketing and endorsements on the international level. And to answer your question: Yes, marketing and endorsments exist outside the United States.

You have to remember that Bosh has to remain nutral or at least maintain the perception of nutrality. He and the raptors don't need to apear hostile in promoting Toronto as a big market city.
