What happened to Marco Bellinelli?

Post#1 » by AllKnowingNBAer » Sat Jan 19, 2008 6:31 pm

Remember when the Raps brass was after this guy? Remember when everyone on this board was going Italy crazy with Bargnani as ROY runner-up and hopefully getting Marco to replace Anthony Parker down the road?

We had a deal in place with Miami, where BC would have sent Kris Humphries for Miami's 20th pick (if Bellinelli fell to that position). What a mistake that would have been. Kris is looking more and more like that gritty backup big man that we need, and we extended him on a cheap three-year deal. Bellinelli is a D-League quality player right now, and is miles away from being able to contribute.

I'm beginning to think that Maurizio Gherardini is a bad influence on BC. Had BC made that trade, Humphries would be playing at least 25 mpg in Miami and flourishing statistically, making BC look bad.

P.S. Not a Bargs hater. I really hope he makes progress soon.

Lol. True. We should get more Serbs, Croats, Russians, and Lithuanians on this team. Stick to what works.

Everyone went nuts after that one summer league game where he dropped 38 or something. I think the kid is talented, just stuck on the bench on a very deep Warriors team and his frame and overall build is just too skinny for the NBA right now.

In belinelli's defence... he arguably has 8 guys ahead of him at the g/f position, GS is just stacked!

Plus how to you break into B Diddys, Jacksons, Ellis', Harringtons minutes.... 4 guys sharing G/F, PLUS, there is still Azubikue(sp?), Barnes, Pietrus, even Troy Hudson... lol

GS is trying to make the playoffs, not develop rookies right now.

it's because don nelson doesn't like playing rookies for whatever reason. Look at brandan wright, it doesn't make sense to trade a starter in j-rich for a bench warmer so I think it's because he and brendan are rookies.

I bet next season they'll(wright and belinelli) be lighting it up in G-state.

True, but he meant that they aren't good players, as individuals. Same with the Greeks. For some reason, Greeks and Italians always field competitive teams, but when it comes to NBA-caliber individual talents, they fall flat on their faces. Hopefully, Bargnani will break out of this half-season horror, and change things.

That is completely false and Don Nelson is probably one of the most pro-rookie guys out there. Wasn't he the one that declared Dirk the rookie of the year and started him immediately at the 3? Didn't he go with Marquis Daniels and Josh Howard down the stretch IN THE PLAYOFFS? G State is a small-ball, fast break team. Players who can't do it all can't get minutes.

Considering the Warrior's play so far, they could have traded J-Rich for an enema and it wouldn't have made any difference. At least now they've got some future pieces and some cap flexibility.

That trade was made as much for Monta Ellis as it was for Brandan Wright. Going forward, I think Harrington will be moved to make room for Wright. Al's contract is too big on a team that needs to sign Monta and Biedrins.

Anyone making comments on a player's basketball skills due to nationality should be banned as it's completely idiotic. There around 4 posters in this thread how fit into this category

Its because teams like Greece, play unselfish team basketball, have great coaches who know how to get them easy baskets, they can flat out shoot, so most of the time its either drive and kick, swish, or pick and pop for three, swish... and the final piece is that they are EXTREMELY dedicated to defence, and they play a half court game that makes teams have to make jump shots.

Individually, not extremely talented, not great defenders, not quite athletic, not very strong.. as a team? unselfish, great shooters, tough team defence.

Relax. Have a sence of humour. It is a joke. My apologies if I offended you.

Yao and Yi have changed the face of how the basketball world views Chinese players. There is always an exception to the rule, something that changes the "rules" of the past, and any individual can break a stereotype. There was hope Bargnani could be the first Italian superstar, and I hope he does.. trust me, I REALLY hope so.

So far though, he is doing a good job of fitting the stereotype well :) (another joke..)

Rookies are rookies. Some have great starts, others take more time. I watched him play a few times during the euro tournament and no doubt that he has talent. A tad early to question his career potential considering the other guys ahead of him in the depth chart.
