Bargnani becoming Okur?

Post#1 » by AB_21 » Sat Jan 19, 2008 8:00 pm

Would you be satisfied if Bargnani becomes a version of Mehmet Okur. Even a lesser version, but simliar things. Or are we still shooting for Dirk Nowitzki?

Okur would be nice, but at this rate even that might be a stretch.

That's what I was essentially hoping for when he was drafted.

At this point, I'd take that type of player in a heartbeat. And although most of us used to think so, I don't think that his upside is much higher than that anyways.

I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

Bargs plays differently than Okur. His driving and passing opens up more (or at least should open up more, and did last year) than Okur's offense. Memo's a better rebounder and a lot more consistent right now though.

After last nights game I've set my sights on "legit-starter" I hope he picks his game up soon, he seems to have lost his drive/will to play

I still don't see the similarities between him and Okur besides being a big and able to shoot 3's. Bargnani's capable of putting it on the floor and has greater lateral quickness. Okur's slow but has a decent inside game and is a beast on the boards... compared to Bargs.

Judging by Bargnani's great games, I'd say he's more of a Dirk mold on offense. If he can get out of this massive slump and play consistently like his 20+ point games, the Okur standard would look like an under-achievement but that's a lot to ask considering how poorly he's been playing. But those games did happen so there's always a possibility for them to happen again and hopefully more frequently.

i'm not sure what happened with bargs.

usually, when a rookie starts putting up better numbers as the months go by, it's a good sign.

but this season is just a major head scratcher.

he really has no role in this team and is not being featured. he's basically just used to set picks up top and is just another one of those shooters. i think this team needs to package up these shooters and get an athletic wing player so bargnani becomes the prime perimeter player on the team.

I dont like his shot, his release seems to quick. Slower mechanics allows for better aim and adjusting while shooting, like dirk and his fadeaway. Bargnani just gets rid of it, usualy they're bricks too.

It's wierd too, he seems almost alergic to rebounding, he'll constantly be in position to rebound the ball, and just get pushed out or lose it. I've seen the ball land in his hands then just slip out.

Remember when we'd all get offended when anyone compared him to Okur? When we thought that that was an insult to our precious number one overall?

Those were the good old days huh?

Bargnani probably had, and has more HGH in his system than any other Raptor, he's 7 feet tall after all, and looks pretty healthy.

He wouldn't become half of what Okur is right now, in our current team setup, and under the coaching of Sam Mitchell.

wow watching that video and even the first 2 games of this season you have to wonder what is wrong with bargnani. Players dont become **** overnight... I dont know hopefully this is just a long slump for him, but even if the offense isnt working he still looks lost on defense half the time .
