With all the hype around BC looking for a big man coach, I'd like to know who's out there and available. Does anybody have any names (not Ewing or Jabbar) that they want to throw in the ring? The Lucas camp would be for conditioning and would help with skills, but John is not a true big man coach.

This was kind of already discussed in the Andrea Bargnani thread. Starts around page 45 IIRC.

Clifford Ray's contract is up this summer, and Bill Laimbeer has wanted to break into NBA coaching from the WNBA for years (although he might be looking for more than just being a big man coach).

It was originally a separate thread which got merged into it, and is I believe still in the subject line.

My thoughts are still with Hakeem and/or Sabonis.

both were highly skilled bigs who used their size to their advantage as well. both with similar tools to bargs, however i think i would give the edge to Sabonis, who would have an easier time communicating with Andrea, as well as the European background of playing for his hometown country team to reflect on too in a similar light.

not to take away from the dream, i just don't think he'd WANT to help Andrea. maybe I'm wrong?

I was really bummed that Jack Sikma didn't end up coming here in the summer. There was talk that the Raps were after him as a big man coach, but he went to Houston to work with Yao instead.

Moses Malone would help cure what ails him.

My darkhorse would be Tom Chambers.

I would be very happy with Arvydas, Vlade, or Hakeem.

I think someone had mentioned Kevin Willis in the Andrea thread. What I like about Willis is that he has a tremendous work ethic and had a long and productive career without being blessed with superior athletic ability. He worked hard to achieve what he achieved and sometimes those types make the best coaches, IMO.

Willis was not blessed with superior athletic ability? Uh.... Did you follow basketball while he was here? Kevin Willis was the definition of an athletic specimen - Which is why he had such a long career. Maybe he didn't do windmill 360's like Vince, but he was a monster with not an ounce of fat on his body...

The only thing Kevin Willis lacked was arms that went past his elbows.. 7 foot man with Muggsy Bogues lenth arms...

I bet a good chunk of the Toronto based Raps fans still remember the photo of Willis and Antonio Davis clowning around in practice from the Star. Willis is giving Davis a bear hug, and he makes Davis who was no small man look like a PG...

Yes, I followed basketball when he was here and I agree that he was a perfect specimen which he achieved with hard work. He didn't come by that naturally, which what I was trying to say.

charles oakley? i'd love to shoot some bricks and watch oak show him how to rebound ie. get away with lower-body fouls and go after the ball like it's a paycheque.

I like thinking about the prospects of Sabonis and Divacs. Even Kevin Willis.

Although what are the odds of all, or any, of those guys being interested?

Other retired relatively young decent big men from the past would include David Robinson and Rik Smits, to name a couple.

Last I checked Sobonis didn't like North America. I could be wrong on that though. I Thought that was why he stayed the best player in Europe rather then being the "Euro Shaq." Also Robinson is empolyed by the spurs.

I like the Idea of hiring Vlade. His post passing was the best I've seen and I think Bargs has that potential as a defender he reminds me of Vlade.

I'd also like to give Props to Bargs for his effort in the game tonight.

Also remember that being a good NBA big /= good NBA big man coach.

Vlade could do it he was a floor general type who has a commanding presence. However, he was/is a hard smoking hard drinking guy and might not be the best role modle that way.
