with his increased mins could he give us the 10 rbs a game we need with 12pts..just lookin for what you guys think..I may be way off base

Hump can't guard SF's on defense nor does he have SF skills on offense.

Putting a 6'9" banger with nothing but interior skills 25 feet from the basket doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

i'd rather have Bargs at SF if you are going to make off-the-chart assessments.

A smart opposing coach would get Hump fouled out in 5 seconds if he tried to guard the SF position.

I dont know about you guys, but I hope the Raptors can trade the guy. Is salary is waste of money. Everything he brings to the game, Maceo Baston can do. Lets trade this guy and resign Delf.

and how exactly do you come to the conclusion that Maceo Baston can do everything that Kris can do?
I think you may have pulled that one out of thin air, haha.
Anyway, you and I both know Kris is much better than Maceo, and he has been a great backup bigman for us so far.

Hump's PER, this season: 16.2, which is above average. Among regulars, only Bosh and the point guards are better. Hump is actually a fairly productive player.

I wish Smitch would experiment with 3 bigs more often like he did last season... However I think we aren't because Bargs is most suitable at SF and we are trying to mold him into a Center. Even if he doesnt become a full time center in the long run, with this type of preperation he will become a very versatile player.

Hmm maybe Hump at SF could work against players who dont like to use the dribble a lot such as Peja or Marion.

I seen Maceo play in ISrael and Indiana (on televison) he looks really good the way he plays. I think he can be an effective guy. HOw many ppl here thought Moon was going to be this good? I always thought he was our 14th or 15th man. Apparantly he is not. The same could be said about Maceo. He can develop and be better if he is given the chance. Dont forget Hump sucked too before in Utah.

True, but his +/- is the worst on the team after Baston and Garbo, if I remember correctly. And his PER is inflated because he, like Moon, just goes after defensive boards rather than boxing out (my pet peeve). It increases his rebounding total but it doesn't help the team.

Hump's defensive awareness is better this year but I still feel like the team really struggles to score when he's on the court. I feel like he should be kept as insurance or traded. Play Rasho, go small - anything but Hump.

His +/- is poor, but our defense is markedly improved with him on the court...it's simply that, as you mentioned, our half-court offensive goes up in flames. Hump's idea of a pick is to run toward the opposing guard, make an odd pushing motion at the air, and then make a beeline for the baseline.

However, considering that he has played frequently with the indomitable duo of Martin/Dixon, I'd suggest that his 'true' +/- (while still negative) would be closer to neutral; Dixon in particular is to offensive efficiency as Napalm is to foliage. Hump is not someone that I would like to see for 20mpg, but I'm comfortable with his current role on the team, especially with his age and contract.

Those are good points.

+/- is a very noisy stat ... I read a study that said +/- even over the course of a whole season doesn't do as good a job, on average, of predicting wins as PER. But over the course of several seasons it becomes very strong.

We have a season and a half now for Hump and it doesn't look good (he's certainly at the bottom for players that have been on the team both years); on the other hand he has certainly improved so there is a case to be made that we shouldn't pay too much attention to his +/- from last season.

And you're right about his age and contract ... he could develop into a solid player and he's not costing us too much, so it makes sense to give him the minutes as long as he's not killing us.

I like the Dixon=Napalm analogy ... I'm still perplexed as to why Smitch won't even try Delfino at the point.
