Did anyone see this yesterday?


Don Nelson Warriors purposely fouls Josh Boone to put him to the free throw line..


Plan backfires, and Boone hits 6-12 to put the Nets up 10.

But as usual, Vince and the Nets crumble down the stretch....and

the warriors go on a 22-0 run... win by 2.

I didn't understand Nelson's plan there. The Warriors' strength is their frenetic, fast-paced style. The last thing they want to do is slow the game down to a crawl.

Yeah, I saw it.
The weirdest part was that it was in the middle of the 3rd quarter.... and always in backcourt.

Unless it was in the 4th, the hack a shaq was only if he got too deep in the lane. Hadn't seen this before.

Wait, how is someone shooting 6-12 from the line "not working"? I didn't see the game, what am I missing here?

Boone had a big night yesterday. The Nets seem to have talent, but for some reason they suck right now.

I think the plan was to get Boone to the line (38% shooter) and then hope he makes 1/2 or best still 0/2. Slowing the game down gives the warriors more chances to score/shoot the ball...and therefore more possessions.


More Possessions=More points!

Don Nelson is fond of this. He did it against the spurs a couple of years ago when they would just foul Bowen in the backcourt and make him shoot freethrows. The plan also backfired on him as bowen sank almost all of them.

He actually shot 7/15. I felt bad for Boone. His coach should have pulled him.

The warriors are at their best when they're pushing the ball. The best way to get in transition is off of turnovers and rebounds, particularly long rebounds. Free throws generate neither turnovers nor long rebounds, so all of the warriors' offensive possessions during the hack-a-boone phase ended up being half-court sets.

Yeah... I was watching the game and I think he scored 6 points on 6 possessions of hack a boonwould mean 50% shooting on FGA which is not likely.

New Jersey is also a bad 3pt team i believe so i think this strategy sucked. As did Nelson, in his 4th quarter interview.

I felt so bad for him when one of his freethrow attempts was an air ball and the crowd heckled him. The coach should have pulled him.

Each Nets possession lasts only around 4 seconds. Warriors get the ball back after Boone shoots the free throws while clock is stopped. Warriors then run their regular offense with a full 24 second clock. Rinse and repeat. At least that was the plan.

Why is it that if a guy shoots 50% when fouled deliberately its bad for his team but if another guy from the same team shoots 50% from the field its good?

But the Warriors hitting a shot on their possession is based on the type of shot they get. If they only get half-court sets going, then they get lower percentage shots. Transition shots are the highest % shots.

Because to get 2 points, the free throw shooter needs to hit 2 shots. The 50% free throw shooter has a 25% chance of getting 2 points. The 50% field goal shooter has a 50% of getting 2 points.

Half court offense is better than no offense at all. It completely takes Kidd, Jefferson and Carter out of the picture on the offensive end.

It takes Boone 2 possessions to get 2 points, while it takes the Warriors 1 possession to get 2 points.

But let's say the 50% free throw shooter on two possessions takes 4 free throws and makes 2 of them = 2points

The 50% fg shooter on two possessions takes two shots and makes one of them = 2 points

what's the difference?
