Bosh's Efficiency as a Scorer - Good Stats

Post#1 » by henrydunn13 » Sat Jan 26, 2008 7:47 pm

Below is a list of the top 20 scorers in the NBA and the number of points they get per shot attempted (Bosh is currently 10th in points per game):

Dwight Howard: 1.77 (points per shot attempted)
Amare: 1.60
Bosh: 1.44
Richard Jefferson: 1.43
Yao Ming: 1.41
Iverson: 1.38
Dirk: 1.36
Lebron: 1.35
D-Wade: 1.34
Redd: 1.34
Gerald Wallace: 1.34
Kobe: 1.33
Boozer: 1.32
Carmelo: 1.28
Vince Carter: 1.28
Josh Howard: 1.28
Caron Butler: 1.26
Baron Davis: 1.24
Antawn Jamison: 1.19
Joe Johnson: 1.18

Hooray! Bosh is one of the most efficient top scorers in the league!

However, over his last 10 games, he's averaging 28.4 points/game (4th in the league) and his 'efficiency' rating is 1.74 points per shot!

That puts him in a category that only Dwight Howard and Amare can match (as seen above)!

For those that will inevitably ask, KG is not in the top 20 scorers (or the top 30), but his rating is a 1.40: similar, but ultimately less than Bosh's season rating.

Isn't this stat basically just the same as FG percent + free throw attempts... which count as 0 FG attempts but can be 2 points. Still a great sign Bosh is that high.

If he gets fouled and doesn't make the shot, but still goes to the line for 2 fts, does that count as a fta in this stat? If not, then this stat is obviously very heavily skewed towards players that get to the line a lot.
In any case, Bosh draws fouls better than almost anyone else in the league, and is a great ft shooter, so it's no surprise he's one of the most efficient scorers.
