While initial reports had Kidd, 34, insisting on being sent to a contender, he said Monday that he realizes there are no guarantees in any scenario. At this point, he simply wants to play for a team that can compete every night and utilize his talents.

"It used to be if I got a triple-double, that was an automatic win," he said. "That's just not the case now. We tried to make this work. We've found out it doesn't. It's time for us all to move on."

How much do people think that Kidd's value has shrunk since last season? I think Thorn waited one season too long to trade him and the offers are going to be very weak.

And to think that he could have had Tony Parker from the Spurs a couple of seasons back...

The deal that makes sense to me at this point is

Kidd and Josh Boone

for

Lamar Odom, Jordan Farmar, and Kwame Brown

I know the Nets wanted Bynum, but that ship has sailed. This gives them a productive big in Odom, a young point guard in Farmar, cap relief in Brown, and it allows them to hold on to Sean Williams. So they get young talent to build on and veteran talent to allow them to try to keep competing in the East.

For the Lakers, they are going to have to give up some kind of prospect to get Kidd, and the likeliest candidate is Farmar. This is most definitely a play for the moment, but with Kidd, and with Bynum and Ariza likely to return for the playoffs, the Lakers would be favorites to come out of the West this season AND next season. Plus, they hold on to Javaris Crittenden and give him a chance to tutor under one of the all-time greats. And since I can't see the Lakers giving up such a promising young talent in Farmar without getting some youth back, I think they insist on Boone.

Sure, his value may have shrunk slightly, but I really think the Nets will get a considerable return for his services. He leads the league in triple doubles, and is still deadly on the fast break.

Contending teams desperate for a legit PG (think LAL, Cleveland, Boston, Orlando, Denver, Portland, Dallas...) would love to pick him up for a playoff run.


I expect him to go to Dallas in a package that includes Devin Harris + Diop, or LAL in a package that includes Javaris Crittenton + Kwame Brown.

Lol doesn't he demand a trade every year? Maybe Thorn will actually grant his wish this year.

What if Portland made a play for him? They got the young guys (Webster, Koponen, Fernandez, Rodriguez, 1st rd'er) and big contracts (Miles, Lafrentz, Prizz) to match up in a trade? Mabye they fast forward their rebuilding plan and go for it this year and nexy.

I dont even think he will get traded this season. The past three years this has been going on.

I'd love for someone to find out what Kidd's record is prior to this season in the games that he's achieved triple doubles in.

I am pretty sure this is the first time he has come out and said anything publicly.

I won't be surprised if a thread called "Could we get Kidd" comes .

Yes, it has shrunk considerably. Not that it was much to begin with. Kidd couldn't pry Bynum off the Lakers last season.

I think the deal with LA is still there. Kwame has a pretty big expiring contract, and Farmer and Crittenton would make the package attractive. But I think that's the best the Nets can do at this point.

Straight up, Thorn jeopardized the future of the Nets by keeping his treadmill team together way past their expiry date. He knew that team wasn't good enough to get past the second round, yet he was content with the playoffs and a 1st round win every year. Now he can settle for mediocre young guys and a late pick or 2 while his team hits the lottery hard the next 4-5 seasons trying to work their way back-up to respectability.

And for those who want to say Colangelo did it in only one season, not quite. He had Chris Bosh, Jose Calderon, a top draft pick and a ton of flexibility to work with. If the Nets get lucky they'll tank the rest of the season and get a high lotto pick.

This trade will never happen. Things are going too well in L.A. right now and doing anything to alter team chemestry just wouldnt be smart. The Lakers are winning and Kobe is happy. To alter this team right now just wouldnt be smart at all.
