this is just a dumb comment to make. Does he not even know their record? They are 14-31 and on a 3 game losing streak.

Even though its the East you still usually need at least 40 wins to make the playoffs. So at a minimum they need to go 26 and 11 for their final 37 games, and this will never happen. They would have to play of a level like the Suns, Hornets, Pistons for the rest of the season for this to happen.

Thats why teams who are doing really bad, but aren't really that bad (ie. Miami) they should just pack it in. They aren't going anywhere in the future with the Shaq and the way he is playing. They should make some trades try to get some talent or picks back and rebuild (I know it sounds dumb since they won a championship 18 months ago). They pretty much just have Wade as their young guy. If they could get Rose then I think they'd be set for the future for a long time.

It's within the realm of possibility.

Consider that Atlanta is 7th and NJ is 8th right now. NJ has a .422 win %, which would translate to 35 wins.

So you may be able to get to the playoffs with a 35-47 record. Which is incredibly pathetic. Just immensely so, I don't know if a team in any sport has ever been in the playoffs with that record...



Now consider that NJ will likely keep getting worse with Kidd traded. Atlanta, after a hot start, has been plummeting. So the 7th-8th spots are still wide open.

So who'll take it? I think Chicago will take one, but then who else? Charlotte? Philly maybe? Certainly not Indy or Milwakee.


NY has played better without Marbury, and they do have an outside chance to get in and lose in 4 straight.


edit: Offcourse Ideally Chicago finishes 7th and Charlotte 8th, as these two teams have given Detroit and Boston the most trouble.

we should all pray that the Knicks make the playoffs, since:

1) it would likely be at the expense of those arsehoolios from New Jersey
2) a Raps-Knicks series? now that's a rivalry that died over the past few seasons. i wouldn't mind seeing it kick up again
3) Eddie Curry is more like Chicken Mango Curry. and that is funny.

It's not too big of a stretch.

They are not too far back on 8th seed. And the teams above them are pretty horrible too.

When you consider that NJ is going to trade Kidd, meaning they probably aren't targetting to make the playoffs this year either.

east is pathetic this year. 34 wins may be enough to sneak in.

And you left off the most important reason, Isiah will still be the GM of the Knicks.

This is the East. Anything can happen.

Even 35 wins is 21-16 the rest of the way for the Knicks. Why are we supposed to think that might happen? The only team in the East they might catch is Milwaukee. Everyone else is out of reach for that team. Forget the names of the players they have. They're the Knicks led by Zeke, they don't stand a chance. I'd be all for 8-13th seeds just dying away and forcing the Knicks in, 'cause Zeke could keep his job another year and that would lead to trading Steph's then expiring for whatever the worst long term contract in the NBA is at that point prolonging Knick anguish well into the next 2010's. I really hope Isaiah moves to hockey management after the Knicks chuck him, 'cause with the new long term deals they're handing out, he could probably actually reduce a fanbase of a franchise to zero. Imagine with unlimited year contracts, Curry'd be on a 15 year deal.

Anyway, the Knicks making the playoffs would be the most horrible thing to happen to this franchise.

They need a high lotto pick, BADLY

They still have a chance to make the playoffs but its not very likely

Not this year.

How do you figure? The 7th seed is currently on pace for 35 wins and the 8th seed is on pace 34 wins. As awful as the Knicks have played thus far they're only 5 games out of a playoff spot and almost certainly won't need a 26-11 finish to claim one.

ThSo at least 2 teams out of that group are going to have to get red hot in order for 40 wins to be the benchmark for the playoffs.

Although I would love to see that too, the only way we face them in the playoffs is if we somehow get the #1 or #2 seed since they will be #7 or #8... or we meet in the 2nd round.

Denver made the playoffs with a 30-52 record in 1979-80. If you search you can find more extreme examples in both the NBA and ESPECIALLY the NHL.

The year Jordan dropped 63 on the Celtics his team had around 32 wins.

Just so everyone remembers, the Knicks were actually right in the thick of the playoff race when Crawford and Lee went down for the rest of the season.

They would have made it last year in my opinion had it not been for those injuries.
