EPSN: Calderon was snubbed!!

Jose Calderon
This is just plain wrong. I would write a dozen paragraphs about how extrarodinary this guy has been, but John Hollinger already did. In a nutshell: no point guard is as efficient, and without quality scorers, he makes Toronto one of the best offenses. He's no joke. Leaving him off the All-Star team, however, is a big one. Jason Kidd and Dwyane Wade -- you owe Jose Calderon a beer.

The media knows it but Kenny and Charles don't seem to think so.

That last spot could have gone to Joe Johnson, Turko, or Jose. JJ is having a terrific season as well so no arguments from me. If Ray Allen made it over those 3, then I would have been a little peeved.

And if you look at some media, they don't mention his name either. To become an all-star, or a trophy winner, you have to become part of the buzz first. People who have familiarized themselves with Calderon say, Holy Crap, he's playing great. But I suspect Hollinger is right: The only reason a lot of people wouldn't pick Calderon is that they can't yet get their head around the idea. He doesn't have the buzz that makes people get on a bandwagon.

See this article? He's not even mentionned.

The All-Star game is a big popularity contest and Calderon is a relative unknown in the US, as are the majority of the Raptors players aside from Bosh and TJ.

Yeah just saw his horrid shooting percentage, yikes! Turko over him for sure, or Jose.

Jose over Wade? I don't think so... Heat are doing bad but Wade is still putting up numbers without help...

going by your logic, why not pick Kaman ahead of Amare? or how about Big Al ahead of west?

I love Calderon...but he does not deserve to be in the allstar game over Joe Johnson and Hedo Turk...

Why?

Simple...he has not played the whole season as a starter and not put these numbers up for a whole season to be deserving this years all star nod...

I think this was the reasoning of the coaches for not selecting Jose...

Personally i think Hedo should have been picked over JJ because his team is winning and he personally has been the reason for a few of those wins...

But right now..Calderon is playing better basketball than both Hedo and JJ combined...

I think what is missed is the burn on carter, hilarious. I can't disagree with jose not making it, the players who made it deserved it. Plus you need more attention like it's been said if people don't know you, you won't make it!

Because Amare is just flat out putting up better numbers than Kaman??? There isn't even a reason to begin an argument between those 2.

man this one is bad, people were complaining about VC possibly getting in as a reserve with his (21,5,5, on 45%) still an incredible season for anyone not named Vince Carter . So instead Joe Jonhson? oh my! 21ppg scorer on an Atlanta team who early on were teasing, but in reality are still a terrible squad. The worst part? he gets his 21 (on his terrible team in the leastern conference) while struggling to shoot at 40% from the field :o (currently exactly at 40%)

as for Calderon, he's having one of the greatest statistical seasons ever! shooting 50% g, 40% 3pt, and 90% FT, if you're wondering only 4 players in the history of the league have ever done that for an entire season! oh yeah and I should probably mention his amazing assist/turnover ratio, he's going set an NBA record! All this while leading a winning team that currently sits 5th in the conference and has 7 more wins than Johnson's hawks...

There was no burn. That guy has just disappointed since he got his new contract. Vince Carter has fallen mightily. I can't believe this guy used to be my favourite player. If only those injuries had never happened... what could have been.... oh well...

I'm cool with that. I feel that being an All-Star would have arbitrarily raised his value on the FA market.

Next year, if he plays as well as he did this year, then I'm sure he'll get a lot more consideration.

Some 'uno, dos, tres' in the playoffs will help also!

Jose wasn't snubbed. You know who was snubbed? B-Diddy. That's the offical meaning of getting snubbed. Hedo should've made it IMO. Jose's numbers arent great enough to be an allstar.

You're a hoot. You are every chucker's dream, quantity over quality. Compared to Joe Johnson's numbers, and he is an all-star reserve, Jose's numbers are over the moon great!

to be honest, i am happy that Jose was "snubbed". perhaps that will be a plus for the Raps when it comes to negotiating his upcoming contract?
i also would rather that he get some extra rest than take part in the All-Star Game buffoonery

I agree, which you would have saw if you scrolled down a bit more. Jose and Turk got snubbed. JJ has actually regressed quite a bit this season. A lot of it is due to injuries imo, but that doesn't mean he should have gotten the nod here.
