Kwame Brown might get bought out

Post#1 » by Mack11 » Sat Feb 2, 2008 8:41 pm

Does this guy interest you at all? He's a big that can rebound and plays good man to man D. Plus, a banger downlow. Kinda like what we need at the moment.

I was hoping we could somehow swing Rasho and sweetners for him when he was in LA, but obviously he helped them get a lot more. Don't see point in bringing him in with Rasho here, but I wouldn't be against it. He's basically Humphries but with the ability to play center, I like that.

I thought they did something to prevent stuff like that happening. I'm not sure why Kwame would go back to the Lakers where they boo him anyways. He'd be MUCH smarter to sign with the Suns.

Definitely. Kwame's an ending contract though, and seeing how Rasho doesn't get the burn he deserves, I rather not have the Raps pay him $8 mill / year. Kwame would allow us to play a more up tempo game. He's a better rebounder, more athlethic, and more efficient from the field. Rasho's better over all, but not worth the extra year in salary. If Kwame could be re-signed for about $4mill/year, he'd be a bargain.

If anyone could motivate Kwame to play to his potential I think Sam Mitchell would be a good candidate, but I wouldn't sign him during the season - If he is a FA when the season ends than I would look at signing him.

That made me laugh out loud. Kwame misses open layups constantly and turns the ball over every time he gets the ball. Toronto doesn't need a guy like Kwame.

Reminds me of Hump. But bigger. It couldn't hurt to try him out.

Just thought of this: how about Kwame in Orlando? All he'd really have to do is whatever Dwight tells him. Dwight can score, rebound and block shots, Kwame just has to defend a guy decently. He wouldn't even demand the ball.

I do not want Kwame here. He's a bum and doesn't offer anything Rasho doesn't already.

I don't get why the Grizz wouldn't keep him. Let him play in Memphis. The team sucks anyway.

This season sure, but he's also been under a lot of pressure, especially from the fans in LA. There were signs last year that Kwame could at the very least be a high quality reserve big. He was scoring well, getting some decent block and steal production and rebounding pretty well. Could we use that on this team from an athletic guy with legit center size? Sure, why not. I'd put him on the floor instead of Humphries in a second.

Cost is the key though. If he's going to cost more than 3 or 4M it's likely too much given the Raps current cap situation.

As well, in an admittedly homeristic moment, if Phil Jackson thinks that Kwame could be a 15/10 guy, if going to give that at least a little credit. :D

buy him out??? his contract is expiring anyways at the end of season. It would be a stupid move for Brown to turn down the 9million he makes right now for a buyout.

If he got bought out, he'd get bought out for 80-90% of his salary.

The reason the Grizz do it is because they want to save the 10-20% because they're in the business not to win, but to make money.

The reason Kwame does it is because he

a) he gets over 7 million pro-rated for the rest of the season;
b) the option to play for any team he wants and get minutes as opposed to getting no minutes in Memphis; and
c) the ability to showcase himself for a contract this summer.
