Possible Destinations for Jose Calderon

Many believe Jose Calderon will remain a Toronto Raptor next year. Let's hope that's the case. BUT we cannot deny Calderon's value at this time. He has the highest trade value on the team. If we re-sign Jose Calderon, we will have a PG trio of Ford/Calderon/Ukic. Now, Ukic isn't coming here to be a 3rd stringer IMO. He can play some 2 but Ukic has played great as a PG this year. Ford may have the lowest trade value on the team. If we were to trade Calderon, we would be dealing from a position of strength (I still believe the PG is our strongest position on the team, despite Ford's injury). I understand it would be a risk to trade Calderon but you've got to look at our team, and realize that we are a couple of players away from contending. We can get a lot for Jose Calderon. Think about this past offseason, The Bucks were reportedly offering the 6th overall pick in the draft. The Hawks were offering Josh Childress + the 11th pick in the Draft. Just imagine what we can get for Jose Calderon this offseason. We all know that Bryan Colangelo always tries to accomadate his players in trades. Possible Destinations (besides Toronto) for Jose in the offseason that I think are realistic:
Seattle--If the Sonics don't get Derrick Rose, I can see them going after Jose Calderon. PJ Carlisimo likes to play a halfcourt type of game. Jose is PERFECT for any team that wants to play halfcourt ball. Plus, Seattle is not that far away from Toronto. Also, it is a young team that Jose can lead and play alongside Kevin Durant. I'm interested to see if the Sonics make some trades to get under the cap.
Trade--Calderon S&T to Sonics for Wilcox/Watson or Watson/Collison + 1st rd. pick(s)-Sonics have 27th pick+33th pick in this upcoming draft in addition to their protected lottery pick.
Portland--The Blazers have been looking for a PG. They were rumoured to be getting Devin Harris in a 3-way deal. This would be the best-case scenario for Jose Calderon. With Greg Oden coming back, they can become instant contenders if they add Calderon. Calderon would take the pressure off of Roy as he wouldn't have to play PG that much like he is now.
Trade--Calderon S&T to Blazers for Outlaw/Jack +1st rd. pick 21st currently.
Atlanta--The Hawks have to make decisions on Josh Smith, Josh Childress, etc. If they don't want to pay Josh Smith the near-max level money, they can pay much less to Calderon. Calderon would make them a playoff team IMO.
Trade--Calderon S&T for Shelden Williams/Josh Childress + future picks.
Miami--Let's face it, Pat Riley does not want to rebuild. Any team that has Shaq and Wade isn't going to rebuild. If the Heat do not get Derrick Rose or Michael Beasley w/ their lotto pick, I can see them trading it.
Trade--Calderon and our 1st rd. pick for Dorell Wright + lotto pick.
I don't know if all of these trades work. I was thinking about all of the possibilities if Jose does not re-sign w/ us. I think every team can offer Jose 5 yr./40 mil. w/ their Mid-Level, am I correct? So what y'all think.

Dude, BC is NOT trading Jose - especially after what happened to TJ this season, he even said it publicly that during free agency, we will match any and all offers for Jose
/jose trade speculation

Miami would not trade their pick this season and could easily be back in the playoffs by next year.
I like your thinking though. You're trying to get in a BC mindset.

if ford didn't get hurt i'd say it was possible but not anymore with tj's rash of injuries of late.

If those are our options I would rather just waive ukic.

Even if we were to trade Calderon, why would we want quantity back?
I hope we would demand at least a borderline all-star with upside, like Calderon, or else a legitimate star for Calderon (with or without other parts).
What we do not need is a smorg of young, unproven talent/draft picks, etc.

Where can we trade the superstar otherwise known as TJ Ford.
I'm sure everybody's offering like mad.

No, Bosh has the highest trade value but you don't see us wanting to shop him around.

As much as this MIGHT be a concern, I wouldn't discount Ukic being a combo guard and the 3rd pg ON PAPER, but because of the injury risk to TJ - assuming TJ doesn't retire or isn't the one dealt in the offseason - he would be the 2nd pg in principle...but luckily that concern belongs to BC and Smitch

I would strongly think Jose is a big part of that. Calderon is as good a point as you're gonna get without going into superstar level, I mean...he WAS considered a strong candidate to be an All-star reserve (he might still have a chance if a guard pulls out b/c of an injury - i.e. Wade)...so given that, why on earth would you trade him? I understand that you could always get better, but someone has to absolutely blow us away with an offer if we're even gonna consider trading Jose, imo.

Jose really doesn't have a choice b/c of his restricted status- whatever offer sheet he signs we can match and he'll still be on the team. So it's not a matter of IF he'll sign, but how long and how much.
btw - I would not do ANY of the trades you suggested. with the obvious exception that any 1st rounder be in the top 3.

I dont think Calderon will be traded... but this is interesting nonetheless. I'll play along. Some of those trades are a bit interesting.
Just wanted to turn my attention to one thing, first...
Plus, Seattle is not that far away from Toronto.
Seattle is far from Toronto. It's close to Canada, yes. But it's still West coast to East coast. Seattle may not be the farthest team in the NBA but it's still quite far - I'd say in the farther half of the league.
Anyways, that's not important. Uhhhh, I dont like the Seattle trade too much. I like Wilcox and Collison, but I dont think either would necesarily be a good addition for the Raps... atleast, not one I'd give up Calderon for.
The Portland trade is interesting, just cuz I like both Outlaw and Jack... and I think both could be good on the Raps. I was interested in the idea of drafting Jack a few years ago - friends with Bosh... and was also interested in the few rumors a year back about Outlaw to Toronto. But it's scary to think of how good Portland would be with Calderon added.
I dont care too much for the Atlanta and Miami trades though.

TJ Ford for Marcus Camby.
Fills a need for both teams. Both players are injury risks (although Camby has been quite durable the past 2 seasons).

I really can't see us trading Calderon. TJ is unreliable now due to injury concerns, and Roko it seems unlikely that Roko will be a starter quality PG. Only way we lose Calderon is if someone offers him a ridiculous contract that the Raps can't match.

I think Ford still has some value... some teams have to be willing to still take a chance on him. Trading Calderon would definitely be a risk... would probably pay out huge if Ford could actually stay healthy for us though. I just don't think B.C. wants to bet on TJ's health anymore

I agree with this. I don't see us trading Jose. First we have to see if TJ comes back? Then we have to see how and if he plays the rest of the season. If so and he plays like he has in the past I think some teams will have interest. I could see a team like Boston who has Rondo but could really be over the top if the add Ford and he stays healthy.
I see him as a very good backup where you play him but don't need him.
You could trade him for a player or pick or maybe as a way to trade up our pick from 18? to into the top ten. You could also trade Roko as well if you wanted to keep ford in that have him but don't need him by adding a third PG better than Jaun or D Mart.

what's TJs contract situation? Does he have two more years after this one at 8 million per? If so, then he'd be a good-sized expiring deal after next season.

What about Memphis? They acquired cap relief in the coming off-season, and Calderon would buddy up with Navarro..
