Post your realistic ideas for toronto to become a contender

I think BC has built a solid foundation I think we are a solid defensive, slashing SF(Artest/Maggette) away from contending team.

I think one of our biggest needs is a banger, downlow, someone who can come off the bench get loads of boards. I think this person is Reggie Evans, the guy is an absolute beast, doesnt care about points but does all the dirty work down low, this guy is willing to punch people in the nuts to get a rebound, thats what the Raps need.

So Im thinkin a Kapono+Dixon for Evans and Ollie(expiring)

I think we have enough shooters, I like Kapono shooting ability, but hes not getting alot of time/shots.

Philly gets there Korver replacement and a solid backcourt player in Dixon.

In the Off-season

Draft

If we decide to keep it

20-ish-Bill Walker(Dropping alot becasue of knee surgery, similar to what happen to Granger, could possibly be a High risk High reward type pick)

Signings
I think we should go after a young player with the LLE,CJ Miles anyone? the kid is only 20, has solid range and a good shot, worth a shot imo.

Sign Walter Herrman to a 4 yr/14 Mil contract, this guy is a very underated scorer in this league, very under the radar, he avaraged almost 20 ppg down the stretch for the Bobcats last year.

Re-Sign Calderon to a contract very similar to what TJ Ford got, 4 year/36-40 Mil

Finally Package up Rasho ,Garbajosa and Graham(even S&T Delfino?) and a 1st for a Kirilenko or someone along those lines.

Roster

C-Bargs/Humps
PF-Bosh/Evans
SF-Kirilenko or another top tier SF?Herrman/Walker
SG-Parker/Miles/Walker
PG-Calderon/Ford

I dont think thats to unrealistic, and an improvement over our current squad.

What do you guys think and please post your ideas of getting Toronto to be a contending team.

Bosh to bulk-up, Andrea to see a psychologist. Calderon to play defense, TJ to not have those nights where he scores 20 pts and everyone else is stagnant on offense. And for SAM to get that one Center who wants to rebound.

Your asking RealGMers for REALISTIC scenarios? Good luck with that.

REALISTIC?

I call this the 2 move championship.

Bargs/Humps/Graham for Oden
Moon/Parker/Rasho/PG for Josh Smith, JJ.

We're set!

Oden
Bosh
J-Smoove
JJ
PG

We win the NBA.

With Bargs and Fords value so low this team doesn't have the value to acquire pieces to become a contender.

we already are contenders.

Neither Atlanta or Portland would go for those deals.

I don't have any specific names in mind, but IMO BC needs to translate our expirings into a significant wing player over the summer/before next year's trade deadline. The only other option is to trade into the top 10 of this year's draft if our scouts are sold on one of the top prospects.

I don't want to see any more depth moves. We already know BC can find these type of players... I'm still waiting for him to add a core piece.

The man can't bulk up anymore, he said it himself in the off-season.

Easy, this should do it.

1) Convince Dwayne Wade that the raptors are the team for him.

2) Wait for Bargnani to un-Darko

3) Get the right rebounding/banger to backup Bosh and Bargs

4) Get the best veteran ring-chaser to play for vet minimum

:D

In reality, the only way this team gets a sniff at an NBA championship is to clear cap space and throw the bank at the best possible SG/SF, and also hope that Bargnani amounts to something. I know a lot of people think that its not possible to obtain another superstar player/salary, but thats what its going to take. Championships are won by teams with multiple stars on their teams, with at least one of them being a top 10 player. Its just the way it is in the NBA.

I think Artest is the biggest impact player we can hope to get our hands on. I'd be hoping to get Artest and Jeff Foster in two seperate trades. The most I'd be willing to give up is any package including Moon, Delfino, Dixon, Humphries, Joey and our 2008 1st.

Basically be left with this

Foster, Bargnani, Rasho
Bosh, Bargnnani, Garbo
Artest, Kapono
Parker
Calderon/Ford
+ Joey or Delfino

Defense and rebounding would actually be really respectable with a starting line-up like that.

-use rasho and one or two of moon/kapono/delfino (sign and trade) this offseason plus first or two to get a great SG/SF on a team that wants to dump or is retooling. (Artest yes Artest, possibly Shawn Marion if the suns are desperate again to unload salaries, maybe )

-resign Jose 5 years /40 mil

-sign a banger this offseason with the MLE

-look at any vets who would sign for the vet minimum who can still contribute

PG: Tj/Jose
SG: Parker/Who is left
SF: New SF/Who is left/Graham
PF: Bosh/Hump
C: Bargs/Banger...
+ Any vet or vets you got

hopefully with the internal development this team can make a charge.

3 things I hope to happen:

1. Show case TJ for two weeks and flip him to Denver while moving Rasho's contract and moving Joey G and Baston , and bring back Linas Kleiza, JR Smith, Eduardo Najera, Chucky atkins (out for the year) and Steven Hunter.

Immediately afterwards

2. Flip Najera, Dixon, JR Smith and 2 future 2nd round picks for Delonte West and Kurt Thomas.

3. Send Parker and Chucky Atkins and our first round pick for Corey Magette (We will still have his Bird Rights)

We would have a playoff ready line-up

Jose Calderon - Delonte West - Derrick Martin
Corey Magette - Carlos Delfino - Jason Kapono
Linas Kleiza - Jamario Moon - Jason Kapono
Chris Bosh - Kurt Thomas - Kris Humphries
Andrea Bargnani - Steven Hunter - Maceo Baston

I thought that perhaps green font wasn't necessary.

I wouldn't even sense a hint of realism from those trades.
