They need to promote Eric Smith and Paul Jones over this guy. Canada also needs some basketball journalists.

I suppose its some attempt at kitch to try to drum up appeal. Problem is, it fails badly.

The problem is that actual journalists don't write sports columns; they certainly don't write them in Canada, and if they did they certainly wouldn't choose basketball.

The problem with sports and journalism is that it's very hard to learn real facts or give actual insight that any fan couldn't pick up by watching highlights and reading press releases. I mean, they probably could tell us some juicy stories, but then the athletes wouldn't talk to them (which is really the only reason to choose that job over, say, obituaries editor). Doug Smith for example has been covering the Raptors exclusively for years - his musings are no better than RealGM posts, he certainly doesn't provide any inside information and he has generally poor grammar.

While I'll agree that the segment was awful and sort of embarassing, I'll also admit that I did kind of laugh.

I feel bad for this guy... He completely embarrassed himself with that workout with the Raps dancers... Trying to crack stupid jokes and doing some g@y looking dance moves.... He's not fit for tv...

You know those dancers were secretly disgusted and just pitying him...

This is pretty sad, it's like a last desperate attempt to revive a career that really never was.

thing is that the guy's pretty much a sideshow in terms of the news front.

Chuck and (Doug, not Eric) Smith carry much of the responsibility.

And then even sports commentators/analysts are more valued than him.

NBA XL and Cabbie are more relevant than Mike Ulmer.

Hell, the guy holding the camera for interviews is more valued than Mike Ulmer.

He's probably best left behind the scenes.
