bonner -- out of TO, into the limelight

For Matt Bonner, pride of Concord, N.H., a trip to play a game in Boston was always good for a couple of things.
Dinner with family, a reunion with high school buddies, and a long list of ticket requests that was simple enough to fill. That is, until Bonner joined the Spurs, the Celtics improved dramatically and ticket demand at TD Banknorth Garden began to outstrip supply.
"A lot of people are complaining they can't get tickets this year," Bonner said. "When I was with the Raptors, that wasn't much of a problem."

not sure how I feel about this

It's just an honest quote. Who'd go to see the Raptors over the Spurs?

He has a point. Funny what a few years difference makes.

What's the problem? Would you rather go see the 27-55 Mike James and Jalen Rose-led Raptors or the defending champion Spurs?

I think he's referring to the Bostons celtics.. when he was playing for the raps, the celtic tix were easy to get (as they sucked).. but now he's playing for the spurs and the celts are the best team in the NBA, so the tix are extremely hard to come by... I don't think thats a diss on toronto..

This is how I interpreted it also and is what I think Bonner meant.

that's also how I interpreted the quote, and wondered what the point was. But after seeing a few responses, I can see how the quote can be mis-interpreted.

As others have said, I think it has more to do with the Celtics being good now and less to do with the Raptors or Spurs.

It's a combination of things...he was playing with the spurs last year when the celtics still sucked so he didn't have a problem getting tickets then, so maybe there is acknowledgment from Bonner that they were just awful back then and not much people were interested in them. It's only this year that there are problems. Pretty much every game is sold out this year in Boston. Also San Antonio doesn't attract the most fans. There's no Kobe or Lebron type appeal.

yea even tho they have arguably the greatest pf to ever play the game and they play it the right way, their style of basketball is regarded as boring so not many people wanna watch them; ppl prefer style over substance

This has nothing to do the Raptors or Spurs. He's saying attendance has skyrocketed in Boston because of the improvement of the Celtics.

I think it also has something to do with their dull and boring jerseys. :D

I had to read that quote 3-4 times just to see where people could misinterpret it as a diss to Toronto.

Celtics were crappy when Bonner was in Toronto. It was rare for the Celtics to sell out games and the ticket prices were lower a few years ago; hence, it was easier to buy em when he was around in Toronto.
