I'm not sure if this means anything, but I have calculated Bargnani's stats when he scores over 10 points in a game. He has 20 such games so far.


17.5 points
4.9 rebounds
1.6 assists
49% FG% (124/253)
48% 3PT% (43/89)
84% FT% (58/69)

0.4 steals
0.6 blocks
1.5 TO
3.3 PF

If bargs can go the rest of the season and into next season averaging numbers like this i would be really happy.

So basically when his shot falls he has a good game and when it doesnt he has a poor game.

In the seven game stretch beginning in Boston, these are Bargnani's stats:

Points per game: 17.0

Rebounds per game: 5.3

FG %: .461

3 PT %: .454

Minutes: 31

its not just points, when his shot is falling all of his stats go up.

Doesn't really take defence into account, and I wouldn't be thrilled at the Idea that our 7ft. starting centre is averaging less than 5 rebounds a game in his very good games...

well one would hope so but seriously, remember bargnani is a volume shooter, he needs to get into a rhythm for his shots to fall down

I understand the attraction for numbers but rebounding is not just about how many boards one has on the stat sheet. Over the last couple weeks Bargnani has done a good job of boxing out his man, allowing his teammates the opportunity to grab rebounds. He still gets burned occasionally but what raptor doesn't. I hope to see gains on the offensive boards but i think that will depend if Bargnani receives the ball down low.

He would easily be averaging 7-8 if Mr jamario didnt jump out of nowhere and steal them out of players hands lol

I'd rather use your stats, CC. This is a good indicator that his offensive game is getting better. And we can see it with our own eyes too. The drive and kick, the drive and dunk, the mid-range shots going down now, the 3-pointer more consistent. He's regaining his confidence.

And the rebounding numbers, while not earth-shattering, are better. His positioning is better and he's boxing out consistently now.

Help defense remains an issue.

Well, when the shot's falling he gets more minutes, which explains why all the other stats go up. I'm sure if smitch played him 30 mins on bad shooting nights he would still manage to grab his 5 boards.

I'm interested in what our W/L record is in those games when he scores 10+ points.

If all goes well and ends well this season, next year I hope to see him averaging 20 points/ 7 boards...

When his shot is falling, he is happy, when he is happy, he makes better decisions overall and his effort in all categories goes up.

Confidence = Performance.

Its funny, I have realized, it seems, that when his shot is falling, he will make the EXTRA PASS, when hes HOT!!! when his shot isnt falling he gets mad and keeps forcing shots because he wants to hit a shot so bad!! Needs to change that, he can always make good decisions, I think Sam is a lot smarter than I give him credit for, he sees all this before we do.. Maybe he sees it in practice, the lack of attention and effort and lack of good decisions as soon as he hasnt hit a few jumpers or isnt involved in the offence.

I've noticed this too. Now I understand what Sam means when he tells Bargs to "faceguard" - he doesn't even look for the board, he just makes sure his man doesn't get it. I don't care if he 'gets' rebounds so long as he doesn't get burned by someone else for the offensive board. Not getting burned means he can stay on the floor and jack triples, which is good.

Record when Bargs scores more than 10 points this season: 12-8.
When Bargs scores more than 15: 7-4.
More than 20: 5-3.

When Bargs has more than 5 rebounds: 9-8.
When Bargs has more than 10 points, 5 rebounds: 8-4.
More than 15/5: 5-2.
More than 20/5: 5-1.

When Bargs plays 30+ minutes: 8-8.
When he plays under 30 minutes: 18-14.

Clearly, these stats tell me that we are at our best when Bargs scores 20+ points, has 5 or more rebounds...and plays fewer than 30 minutes.

Clearly, I am also addicted to the 'box score finder' on basketball-reference.

And therein lies the problem with stat watching. I can watch Nash have 10 turnovers, and yet he played really well in that Nash vs. Paul game last week. The 10 turnovers on their own are awful, but the fact that Nash makes up for it on pretty much every single play that he doesn't turn the ball over, is what is important.

With Bargnani, he isn't there with his rebound yet. But he has already added boxing out to his resume. It is something he didn't do at least, even as early as the start of the year. Now he is at least competing on the floor for the ball. With time, we can start to expect him to compete in the air.

To me, there are a lot of small improvements in his game. Nothing is really a significant strength in the things he has worked on, but he is certainly a much better overall player than he was last year.

We really need to remember that coming out of the draft he was expected to be a project player.

I wouldn't be ecstatic with those stats b/c the rebounding still isn't there. We need more rebounding from Bargs so we can dominate the boards.

nice!! its clear that if bargs is cold in the 1st quarter that his shot isn't falling, or he's not hustling for rebound, we should bench him for the whole game.
