Interesting but horrible idea in my opinion.

The East might be the weaker conference right now but East vs. West has such a history in the NBA that they would never change it. The teams and media would also complain about the extra travel time, which would extend each series and push back the finals, something the NBA does not want.

The NBA also likes East vs West because it makes sure no part of the country totally misses out on the playoffs. At least one or two teams make it from each division which keeps the media outlets in each area happy.

i like this idea because it would have the deserving teams be in and kick out the teams that are in by default cuz they're in the weaker conference.

but this will never happen...not really fair for the lower seeds (east teams this yr) cuz they would need to travel west and most likely be down 2-0 afterwards.

How is that "not fair"? They're the lower seed for a reason.

the largest media center in the US is in the east.....and quite frankly more likely to get in on any given year as an 8 seed than a top 6 seed. Its not going to happen, even if maybe it should.

Although it'll probably never happen, those matchups would make for exciting first-round series. They're all worth watching.

Ignoring the practicalities, that specific list of matchups would be quite exciting. Spurs vs. Orlando? Suns vs. Raps? Lakers vs GSW? Good times.
