Are we that bad. I thought our perimeter defense got better this year.

perimeter defence = jose and AP and moon

Jose is just terrible in all facets of the defensive game
Moon bites on any pump fake because he's too busy thinking about blocks
AP is average

Because we dont have good perimeter D (system and individual players)?

I wonder if people still think that the lacking interior D is THE cause for our poor perimeter D

AP and Moon suck on man to man defense... Delfino is meh...

I am sick hearing about AP as a defensive force. He is BAAAAAD! He gets exposed all the time.

Also, none of our wings are anywhere NEAR good enough to exert offensive pressure on opposing wings. That always means the opposing wings only have worry about scoring.

Yep, I think this has a lot to do with it too. It doesn't require much effort to guard AP/Moon/Kapono/Delfino because they're mostly jumpshooters and don't apply pressure on the defense. Guys like Ginobili, Kobe etc. can just focus all their energy on offense.

Another thing is our lack of a consistent system in regards to defending pick and rolls.. Manu is just working off the picks, and getting wide open looks....Some guys switch, other guys stay on their man... its very confusing, and nobody knows what will happen on any given pick and roll... It would help A LOT if they just made up their mind beforehand...

yeah every game we get owned by a shooter. there's always at least one shooter who gets a lot more than their average.

We're only down 4 in the fourth...

It's part allowing them to penetrate at will, part forgeting to guard them and giving open shots (or always getting stuck on screens), and part forgetting to guard them and letting them catch a ball close to the basket for an easy layup.

It's like the complete opposite from the past, where every 7 footer would look like a prime Shaq against us.

AP gets the assignment alot and his D has slipped ALOT from last year.

He's been getting torched pretty consistently this season.

Because Kobe, Maggette and Ginobilli are good players?

Not really, he plays smart team D, and is reasonable as a man to man defender. He isn't Bruce Bowen, but he's still decent.

I mean, think about it. Parker is old, Moon and Kapono aren't really difficult covers and Delfino is up-and-down. Think about how much energy a player expends on the defensive end of the floor; if the Kobe's, LeBron's and Manu's aren't being tested defensively, they can overexert themselves offensively.

Or maybe it's because they're just really, really good.

Man-to-man, AP is pretty good BUT at times, he forgets his man, leaves his guy open all the time. Gets trapped under the screen too easily - which is why Rip Hamilton has consistently dropped 30+ on him. Can't hustle back in transition.

I think this is because as a team we tend to play help D a lot. He doesn't get back onto his man quick enough, and seems to be a bit slower on his rotations this year. The real culprit is the help D IMO. I can't think of a team we've played where we haven't really tried to double every guy with the ball.
