OT: Pietrus unhappy in Golden State, wants trade

"We quietly requested a trade prior to the first date on which he could be traded this season, and we've repeated this request many times," McCandless said. "There are several teams who would like to acquire Mike, and several offers have been made.

"We thought he was traded last week, but the trade was nixed at the 11th hour. Three days ago, Mike met with Chris (Mullin), and two days ago, Mike met with coach (Don) Nelson, both times repeating the trade request."

Think Colangelo called?

I hope. I always thought Pietrus would be a good fit in Toronto, he plays tough D and is someone who will go to the hoop.

The Raps have some reasonable expiring deals to throw back. That's about all I'd offer though. He's expiring this year, and the Raps need to save money for Jose, 1st round pick, and Delfino too.

I think the Raps should go after him. After seeing a swingman kill the raps in three straight games, he could really help out in that area.

Its been reported about a week or two ago that a Pietrus for Hermann deal was discussed between GS and Detroit.

Not sure who turned it down, or what else might have been involved... or really if it was ever serious.

no thx .. mr step out of bounds is no good..

why does this board have such a hard on for this guy?

he is no better than parker/delfino....

what we need is a 2nd scoring threat... not another depth guy we will put on the bench...

My feelings, too.

Here is why raptor fans have such a hard on for him :

He's younger than Parker, meaning he has UPSIDE. Yes, that magical word.

Plus he can play gritty D, something we obviously lack outside of Parker. Moon can be praised galore for his defensive abilities but he purposely backs off his man to play for the block, Delfino is good but he won't stop the tier I stars of the NBA. Pietrus is athletic and can still develop. He can shoot the 3 and he slashes, much better than Moon. I'd rather have Pietrus jacking shots from 22 feet out and playing in your face defense rather than cringe when i see Moon take a jumpshot and watch him constantly get schooled on D for his gambling.

Parker is getting old, we need some potential.
Delfino thinks he's a god.
Kapono can play D for shat.
Moon is athletic but he relies way too much on it.

Pass. Seriously. Here's a guy whose minutes were REDUCED during last year's playoff run because he's so dumb he couldn't run plays. The same plays they ran all year and he should have been very familiar with.

When the going gets tough, Pietrus gets benched.

I dont see him as much of an upgrade. Upgrade over moon yes, but not by much.

This team needs an upgrade on the wings, not a 5th wingman to ride the bench in case somebody gets hurt. He isn't a shutdown defender like some people are suggesting he is and he's a major drawback offensively.

The poster who said Pietrus is no better then Delfino or Parker was certainly correct.

Players like TJ, Dixon and D-Mart will fit perfectly in GSW. All 3 of them can leave. It wouldn't make a difference.

The reason Pietrus could be an asset is that he's a big, physical, athletic SF would can play good defense in spurts against guys like Lebron, Pierce, Jefferson, Butler, Deng, Hedu, Pierce, etc in the playoffs....

I think that's why Dumars might have some interest in him... 5-6 minutes per half to rest Prince... let him know his focus his to play defense on Lebron or Pierce and I think he'll do ok.

I've seen him come up with some pretty jaw dropping blocks with his pure athleticism. He's not great as far as skills go, but its a low risk move that could be a difference maker in a 7 game series.

If he can be had for expirings, I'm interested - this guy is a serious athlete, and in my opinion still has a lot of upside. With that being said, he's an expiring himself, so I don't know why GS would trade him for more expirings.
I'd acquire him not so much for this season, but for next season. I don't think we are going to resigning Moon, and I think we'll deal Parker part way through next season as an expiring. This leave us with Kapono as the 3 off the bench, and Delfino as the 2 off the bench. Pietrus can be a relatively cheap, effective starter at the 2 or 3 (if given minutes, I think he is a better player than Delfino), and then we use our expirings + other sweeteners to get an elite 2 or 3.

I would rather go after Walter Hermann than Pietrus.
