Canadian content

With Mitchell forced to deal with real life in Georgia following the death of his father-in-law, Triano will serve in Mitchell's absence, a Canadian in charge -- albeit for one night -- of Canada's only NBA franchise.

Many will view tonight as some sort of watershed moment in the hoops history of this country, but typical of Triano is how he refuses to get caught up in any hoopla, real or perceived.

Ford's status unclear

Conspicuous by his absence at yesterday's practice was point guard T.J. Ford, who sprained his right wrist (shooting hand) in Monday's 93-88 loss to the visiting San Antonio Spurs.

Ford played fewer than nine minutes against the defending NBA champions and was not successful on any of his four shots from the field.

The team lists Ford as day to day, meaning his status for tonight will be determined at game time.

Shaq delays debut

O'Neal, who is learning a new offence and working his way into shape after a hip injury, likely will not play when the Suns visit the Golden State Warriors tonight. After returning from the Bay Area, the team will decide whether O'Neal will play against the Dallas Mavericks tomorrow night in Phoenix.

The Star

Bosh shows what he's made of

"I'm just trying to brand myself off the court," said Bosh. "I think right now when you think of me, you think of more of a basketball player and that's it. My life is a lot more than that. I'm just trying to show depth, I guess, or show people that I have different parts of me that they've never seen."

The Globe

Triano takes his place in history in stride

The first Canadian to be a head coach in an NBA game took it just as the stereotype would suggest: Nothing to get too excited about, it's not about me, one game in 82.

Love that Bosh quote on Triano being an X's andO's guy. We should just let Triano coach everytime where in a close game situation.

Thanks for the papers.

just came across this ... it's just a Q&A with Sam smith from the Chicago Tribune

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com ... ory?page=3

I believe the Bulls need a good PG and the Raptors need a solid SF. Would a Ford for Nocioni or Deng deal make sense to you? --Stan Grossman, Toronto, Canada

No. The Bulls passed on Ford once when they took Hinrich. They were privately concerned then about his health and hardly would take such a chance now. Unfortunately for the Raptors, Ford has almost no value now as teams fear he could be seriously injured on their watch.

Phil Jackson isn't an XsOs coach but he has a dude in the background who invented the Triangle for him. He just implements it.

If Sam were willing to run a greater variety of plays, then we'd have plays. Doesn't matter if the head coach is an XSOS guy himself.

Atually Sam used to drive me nuts and still does sometimes, but to his credit has grown a lot since first arriving. He needs to work on strategy now like taking opposing stars out of game by forcing them to foul out. Overall, his timeout calls have been good and his player development as well. let's hope his Xs and Os will improve as well.

Have you learned nothing from the Smitch.
It's about the Jimmy's and Joe's not the X's and O's.

Here's a tidbit about BC that was in an article about the Leafs GM search

There's a rumor that Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo has a clause in his deal that allows him to quit if Peddie so much as steps into his office without an invitation. It's probably an urban myth, but it actually sounds like a pretty good idea.

Leafs need Holland

Not really new but it would be great if true.

thanks for the articles. The urban myth clause BC has was hilarious but obviously untrue.
