OT: If Kidd is in fact traded (AllStar implications)
What happens to the All-Star teams now? How does this work? Does he miss out entirely or become an extra reserve in the West?
Sorry for creating a thread, but I was just thinking about it and never seen something like this happen so I wasn't sure. Hopefully someone can clear this up.

The precedent was set in the NHL in 2003. The Florida Panthers were the host team of the all-star game. 3 days before the game, they traded their only all-star representative Sandis Ozolinsh to Anaheim (A Western Conference team). Ozolinsh went to the skills competition wearing a generic jersey, not his team jersey like all the other players. He still played on the Eastern team in the all-star game, but was introduced as a Anaheim Mighty Duck.

There's no precedent set in the NBA yet though. Kidd should not be playing at all. If he was in the West, he wouldn't have been voted in, nor would the coaches have voted him in.

I don't see this as a precedent at all. I doubt the NBA will look at this NHL case to decide their own course of action.

That's interesting, but I can't see the NBA doing that.

Its unfair to rob a player of his all-star berth, regardless of how he got it, 2-3 days before the actual game... It anything, Kidd will probably still play for the East, since it happened so late, but he'll probably have all New Jersey ties removed (introduced as Maverick, no NJ logo on jersey)...
But I wouldn't mind if Stern just added an extra spot on the West reserves, and added two more spots in the East to make things even (Either Jose/RJ to replace Kidd as a Net representative and Hedo for obvious reasons....)

It's a slippery slope because if they put him on the West team, they would either have to add 2 players to the East or have an extra player on the West, possibly taking playing time away from somebody in the West. They probably won't tell him to stay home, because he was voted in to the fans. Even though most hardcore fans agree that Kidd should be nowhere near the all-star game, it would be a slap in the face to the casual fans that voted him in. I don't see Stern doing that.

This was before voting was completed though. So he was offically voted in while being in the west.
As for the Kidd situation I heard Marv Albert talking about this example but if Shaq was the all-star. All they concluded is that it has never occured before and the league has no policy at this time on the matter.
I hope they pick Calderon but they might pick the next guard in the voting which in this case would be Carter or Allen (which ever finished 3rd among guards in the East)

P/S how funny would it be if JC gets the call to replace Kidd after all this talk of Arenas and his blog. I'd love to read Agent Nothing's blog next week if this is the case, definition of OWNED.
First of all, never underestimate BC's ability to call up Stern and lobby for Jose, since this is entirely Stern's call.
And don't underestimate Stern's thought process - another international player and a second European, first Spaniard, when the league is rumored to be announcing long-term plans this weekend in New Orleans to create a European NBA conference that would include Madrid!
And Stern gets a chance to give Gilbert the finger - I bet Jerry Colangelo would like that, too, after all of Arenas' whining over being released by Team USA.
