Official: Bibby traded to Atlanta

but:

The Kings have reached an agreement in principle to send veteran guard Mike Bibby to the Atlanta Hawks for guards Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue and forwards Lorenzen Wright and Sheldon Williams, sources told The Bee on Saturday.

That's interesting but great for us because it means they're not going for Caldy. It also means they become a much better team, much much better.

A lot of good players are being had for very little this season. If the trend continues, then it will be good news for us next season or even this offseason.

Although Atlanta does get better with this trade, it's good news for us seeing that they were one of the few PG-starved teams with cap space that could pry Calderon away from us.

Uh oh, I forgot that Sactown now becomes a contender in the Calderon sweepstakes.

thats ridiculous, given up a proven guard for a veteran, a very inconsistent lue, another washed up veteran in wright, and sheldon who hasn't proven much. No way the kings should go through with this even with all the expiring contracts.. bibby's value is still high and i can see them getting some key players for him

I would say the deal can possibly be as bad as the Gasol to Lakers trade, assuming sac town dont get any picks back

I wonder if we could give them garbage for Artest :lol:

Actually it means SacTo could go for Caldy.

The West is interesting, the top 10 are trying to set themselves ahead by doing everything to win now. And the rest are selling everything for some capspace

We need to go for Artest, offer a package of Delfino, Graham, Dixon. They're all expiring I think and we can throw in a second rounder

Nice to see Sacremento got their mandatory undersized frontcourt player in the deal.

Cap dump to lock up Martin and possibly Udrih I suppose.

they can for sure with the expiring contracts they'll be getting but i really doubt it since they're high on beno udrih and quincy douby

1. I don't know how you figure that Sacramento will have cap space. You have to figure in the cost of Martin's extention and a high first round pick. Even if they dump artest for expiring contracts, they won't have enough cap space to make a run at Jose.

2. SAC also has Beno Udrih, a young point guard who is doing very well and makes this trade possible.

Lebron has every right to be pissed now!

Hawks got Bibby for 3 bums who are expiring and a horrible player who is also ugly and a big time bust.

Sacramento got a very poor deal, especially considering that Bibby only has another year on his deal and he would have had much more value as an expiring next year.

Don't know a thing about SacTo but if they have no capspace then I'm all for it. It means they don't make a run at Caldy. I knew they had Udrih didn't realize they were that high on him.

Good for them and even better for us. The less the teams the better for us to keep Caldy in Raptor red.

Obviously Atlanta is better off, having to give up little, but Bibby is not likely to be the point guard they needed. He's an older shooter, more of a 2 than a 1. Joe Johnson is a volume shooter, which means in my book that Bibby could make Johnson expendable.

Think of it.

Atlanta now has two max players - Bibby and Johnson. They have to max out Josh Smith. That's critical. So three max players. And this trade makes it almost impossible for them to keep Josh Childress and fill out their roster for next season without pushing up against the luxury tax.

I give Atlanta marks for a ballsy deal - for them, spending this kind of coin would appear to run counter to everything they have done since Atlanta Spirit bought the team.

But the potential overlap between Bibby and Johnson makes me believe that another deal is in the works to dump Johnson or get value for Childress, probably dealing him for expiring contracts and a pick.

So here's a thought. Can we get in on the Childress or JJ fronts. Childress will have to happen soon to keep him or traded contracts off next year's books. JJ could be done in the summer, by us, using our many expiring contracts.

We have our draft pick we can toss in the pot to spice things up.

I would love to get JJ, he could really be good next to Moon, our PG, Bosh and Andrea. He can shoot, drive and play all-round solid ball. He gets trigger happy but I'm sure Sam can try and fix that. He's not the defensive gem I would like and he's very expensive for what he does.

Josh Smith would be a died and gone to heaven get. If we get him somehow I will name my first child after BC. He is the PERFECT fit both in terms of need and talent.

I don't know why the Kings did this, they could have at least tried to get Law, though he is somewhat like their own prospect, Douby. I guess they are going to let Artest walk, look to dump Miller, Moore, Thomas, and SAR, and rebuild around Martin, Hawes, Garcia/Salmons, and their lottery pick.
