OFFICIAL TRADE: Kidd to Mavericks(pg.8)

Post#1 » by -RDB- » Mon Feb 18, 2008 1:20 am

Well, looks like the teams found a way around Jerry "30 days" Stackhouse and Devean "Bird rights" George.

Sources say Mavs swingman Trenton Hassell and the retired Keith Van Horn will be plugged into the trade in place of Jerry Stackhouse and Devean George. If the newly proposed deal goes through, New Jersey would receive 24-year-old point guard Devin Harris, center DeSagana Diop, guard Maurice Ager, forwards Hassell and Van Horn, two first-round draft picks and $3 million in cash for Kidd and Nets forward Malik Allen.

I didn't doubt that this trade wouldn't eventually happen.

How could Kidd have played for the Nets again after the first aborted trade?

I'll be shocked if Vince Carter remains a Net. It doesn't make sense to keep him there given NJ is rebuilding (I think).

I'm thinking something would have happened with Cleveland then.

I'll be shocked if a playoff team in the West trades for Carter in order to "get over the hump".

I'll be shocked if some team doesn't still believe in Carter and sees all that potential and thinks he's still got what it takes to carry a team.

Really?

I just can't believe that he hasn't developed enough of a reputation around the league, by this point, for being a loafer.

Sure, all the potential in the world. Unfortunately, upside doesn't win games - it may fill seats, but those seats in Newark look pretty empty to me.

It's not even that, I think he'll still fill seats and generate interest (Clips, Sonics), at least in the trade honeymoon period. I think he's ideal for a team like Golden State if they can take on the salary. I've always felt that Vince would do well under Don Nelson's loosely defined jumpshot oriented offense where bad shots are often pardoned. Plus, Nelson's a wise coach, maybe he can flip Vince's switch.

I'm sure he's developed a bad reputation but there's always a coach or GM out there that might think he has what it takes to deal with Vince, after all it's a coaching challenge.
