Petition: Fazekas to the Raptors

Post#1 » by N1QUE24 » Tue Feb 19, 2008 6:24 pm

Get this done BC.

I dont know why the hell the Mavericks decided to waive this kid... his potential is right up there with Bargnani's.

Judging by Fazekas' college game he is not a jump shooter.

Depending on what we do with Juan this week, I'd consider waving D-Mart and taking on a minimum wage big as a prelude to trading Baston as part of a package of expiring contracts. We don't need a perennial reserve list player like Baston earning $2 million. That slot should go to a kid earning the minimum.

I think it all depends on if and what moves we make at the deadline. If we decide to package Hump, Baston could be a solid option for us coming off the bench.

True enough. But in a standpat scenario, where Baston becomes an expiring contract and Humphries becomes part of a future package, I'd much rather have a young big to groom than to have D-Mart. We have our first round pick this year, but we might use that either as trade bait or to snag a young SG like, say, Courtney Lee. With no second rounder, we might be better off to get Fazekas now for essentially nothing.

Perhaps you see more to his game than I do but his primary offensive weapon is still the jump shot and he's limited in most other offensive skills.

Here are various scouting reports on him:

Strengths: Possesses special shooting touch for a bigman with range that easily extends to NBA three point distance ...

Makes for a mismatch, he'll be able to pull post players outside, spreading the floor

His face up game is good but he lacks a first step to get by defenders who play him close outside ...

Back to the basket skills are still in need of refinement as he remains more comfortable facing the basket

I don't know what you're talking about - extrapolated over 48 minutes, you get 20.8 points and 16.7 rb.

So our 1st overall pick has the same potential as a 34th pick?

Well, that certainly sucks for us.

I question the legitimacy of this petition. Now, is this really a petition, or just a term the OP threw in there to delay (I won't say stop) the imminent attacks and accusations of this being another one of those "other team cuts scrub; we must sign scrub" threads....HHMMMMMM.

He was a decent player in college. If I am not mistaken, he is a pretty good rebounder.

I would sign him to a small deal and waive DMart. Put the guy in the D league and see what he can do. He is young, cheap and has some talent, which is almost the opposite of Martin (except for the cheap part).

There is one documented case on record where the 8th pick in a particular year showed less potential than every single 2nd round pick from that draft.... 8)

What is there to lose? Think about it..

He could very well turn out to become a decent player in 2-3 seasons...

Why is it that every player thats available is either the perfect fit for Toronto or is a future superstar that we need. There's a reason he was a second round pick. He doesn't help us at all.

Fazekas is a very similar player to Matt Bonner. Probably a slightly better rebounder but very, very similar.

Although I think Fazekas is underrated, I'd rather try and send a player to Seattle for Johan Petro or Robert Swift, either of whom would make a solid prospect to groom as backup C of the future.
