For the raptors to learn to win in the half court

Post#1 » by raptor_fan » Wed Feb 20, 2008 3:58 pm

1)They must get a center the will play defence rebound like mad and set picks get easy dunks

2)The can play bargnani and bosh with that type of player but would need to play zone

the goal is to be able to acquire experience in the playoffs playing half court
and then winning a championship in 2010

but the culture of playing half court with a running component has to start now

Is there a team in the league more "half court" than the Raptors?
I think the playoff games are played in full court.

this guy doesnt know what he is talking about. the raptors are one of the most efficient half court teams in the league. management has been quoted as saying there halfcourt game is way ahead of their fast break game.

Though most games are played in the half court mode, we shouldn't be worrying too much about that. Instead, we should have an opportunistic offense. The old Boston Celtics team of the 80s with Bird, Parish and McHale is a perfect example. They'd kill you in the half court but they'd also kill you in transition if you weren't paying attention. But at the same time, they weren't exactly the best in either half court or transition. They just took advantage when there was an opportunity. To me that would be the ideal offense.

A lot harder to rebound in a zone. Just thought you should know.

We barely ever run yet to many people still think that we're a run and gun outfit. The Raptors aleady are a solid 1/2 court team. Better than last season.

Bosh plays the inside, the PG's run the pick and roll and we spread the floor with our shooters. We were hurt a bit in the playoffs last year aganist zones because Ford, Graham and Rasho were on the floor a lot and none of them can shoot with range. This year we have Bargs starting and Jose, Kapono and Delfino available to spread the floor. Put a zone on us this year and we'll pick it apart.

Half court offense is the least of the raptors worries.

They just have to stop "trying" to rebound and have to want the ball once it comes off the rim and just go get it.

The half court offense is usually successful when it can generate trips to the free throw line. Usually the trips to the line are caused by mismatches that occur from swapping on picks. Usually when a mismatch does occur the offensive player tries to drive and is fouled either by the mismatched or help defender.

the raptors needs to learn how to rebound and score in transition. and the reason we can't run is because no one can leak out because everyone is going for the rebound.

Umm, this is a free message board - hardly the big leagues. You don't need to be condescending.

Not to mention, I think you missed his sarcasm.

It's not all about learning to rebound. If you keep putting a bunch of weak rebounders on the floor together, ultimately you're going to get beat on the boards more often than not.

Game to game players can show marginal improvement in rebounding but nobody on this roster is going to suddenly jump a couple of levels as a rebounder overnight. It's like putting Shaq, Dwight, Milt Palacio, Eric Snow and Ira Newble on the floor together and complain about how they can't hit any 3's.

http://www.knickerblogger.net/stats/2008/d_reb4.htm

The Raps have now moved up from 10th to being the 9th best defensive rebounding team in the NBA.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.
