No kidding...I'm surprised we got him uber cheap like this. I was thinking something like double that amount. This may seem even nicer if he improves. I think he is a much better player than Garbajosa who was being paid over double this amount.

ukic is not only far superior than garbajosa, he is the best player in the world...

At least he wasn't too scared to enter the NBA, like Fran.

roko couldnt even be a starter in the euroleague. he sucks.

Actually, he was a starter last year in the Euroleague. Does that mean you suck?

Maybe I'm wrong but he's further along than Jose Calderon was at the same age. The guy only just turned 23 and is further along than Jose Calderon and playing behind Calderon just as he did at Tau when Jose came here.

His game, like Calderon's, is also apparently better suited to the NBA style and he's a decent ball-handler.

What's not like?

Calderon was an established star on a Euroleague finalist? Or was it championship team? You knew in watching him that he could be an NBA starter - he had the moxie to run a team. He'd start a game, Tau would run up the score. He'd go out, the game would tighten up. He'd go back in, Tau would apply the coup de grace. That was pretty much the pattern when the Spanish Olympic team won the gold in Athens.

I don't see Ukic with the same composure and floor generalship. He may outshine Jose some day as a scorer, but he hasn't shown me that he has the leadership ability of a high end distributor point guard.

So I'm not convinced that he's ahead of Jose, but with the differences in their game, Ukic might have a similar impact over time, as a combo guard.

Spain didn't medal at the 2004 Olympics, much less win gold.

From what i hear, it's a matter of effort rather than physical capability. He can play defense if he wants to. But he doesn't always all the time.

Spot on.

He's got great tools to be a very good defender though, and he goes through stretches where he can really stifle the opposition. I'm fairly excited at his defensive potential.

Considering he'll be in more of a backup role this year, to earn more PT you'd hope he'd really bring it in that respect.

Yea, Roko definitely has the tools to be a great defensive PG. Calderon has the work ethic, but physically, he is not gifted and it will always prevent him from being good defensively. Hopefully, Calderon's hard work ethic will rub off on Roko. We badly need some defense at the point for quite some time now. It's too bad Roko didn't come over last season. Very few point guards take off in their rookie seasons. When you look at the rookie seasons of Calderon, Deron Williams, Mike Conley, and even TJ, their numbers were very mediocre when compared to how they were in their 2nd and 3rd seasons.

My only concern is that he is having back problems and supposedly is taking injections to play. This was something that was mentioned in the Canada vs Croatia thread by a fan. I hope its not that serious.

(maybe the guys english was bad and he meant injections as in he plays sporadically)
