OT - Anyone live in Edmonton?

Post#1 » by bloodtoavampire » Wed Oct 8, 2008 9:05 pm

Looking for information from some realgm friends.

The wife and I are thinking about moving to Edmonton. Looking for some quality information from someone that lives there on the job situation, good areas to live, prices etc.

If you do live there and would be willing to help that would be awesome.

Thanks

Will

I Lived in Edmonton for about about 4 years, I'm not sure what your budget is or whether you are renting or buying but i would suggest living somewhere around the river valley as you are then closer
to downtown, the university, White ave. There are not too many newer areas in this part of the city but it by far has the most character and the most convenient lifestyle. I personally never really enjoyed leaving this area of the city.

The job market in Alberta is fairly strong, especially if you are in the Oil/Gas / Engergy industries.

Real estate prices are a little over inflated at this time, however rental prices have stayed quite affordable especially compared to where i live now ( vancouver)

Hope this helps.

Whatever, man. Both Edmonton and Calgary suck and are crime riddled.

Come to Red Deer, we're about to finish construction on our 3rd mall. 3RD baby!

Depends on what you do for a living?

Edmonton has picked up a lot over the last 5 years. What do you do for a carreer?

Do you prefer living downtown or in the burbs?

Kids? Have em? Don't have em?

The Job situation in Edmonton is booming right now and not just for trades people and people working in the energy sector. With all of these new companies starting up and all the new projects going there's plenty of jobs here. If your planing to move here I would avoid living north of the yellowhead or anywhere in the North East. Housing prices are starting to drop but are still high and if your looking to rent prices are pretty reasonable. I pay 1200 a month for a two bedroom two bath apartment that's approximately 1200 sq. feet which isn't bad considering how close I am to school.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask away.
