Marbury

Post#1 » by C.Boshly » Fri Nov 14, 2008 9:29 pm

PANACE TIME!

In the spirit of the times I think this thread is overdue.

Marbury is supposedly in great shape, he is hungry to prove that he belongs in the NBA and can be a winner. He is also crazy.

NYK may even be hesitant to buy him out if he appears to be going to a team within the Atlantic. Obviously there are significant cap issues involved in signing him; acquiring him could result in a 2 for 1 trade.

However BC has said he would not be afraid to go over the cap if it would make us contenders. Marbury doesn't move us into that category but... it is tempting. Marbury could really address some of our weaknesses.

Backup PG
Possible minutes at SG
Bench scoring+production
Ability to dribble drive/slash

Obviously Marbury is a pyscho and a loser. However our team has alot of character guys and a tough respected coach in Smitchell. I think we could deal with one character on the roster.

So anyone think this is worth a chance or even has a possibility of happening?

And how to you propose we make a move for his $20M contract?

Cant see it happening, as BC will not give him anything more than the rest of this season, and Marbury would want more.. . and to start. Raps dont need another PG controversy. .

And BC saw what Steph is capable of (in a negative way) with PHX.

Could make sense, but i think it would be pretty foolish to put your money on it

I'd expect a thread like this from a ball boy, but not a veteran...really? do you want to beat this dead horse more? Have you heard Caleron/Kapono aren't very sound defensively? Have we mentioned that we may/may not think Bargs is a bust?

we're not looking at Marbury. Period. Stop talking about him, he's old and batsh*t crazy.

No. If we were to go over the cap it would have to be for a wing (2 or 3) that would provide a lot of defense.

Good Points:
-He`s an excellent backup PG
-He can play the 2
-He`s actually a good defender
-He`s one of the best creators in the whole league or at least used to be
-He has an edge to him. He`s tough when he wants to be.

Bad Points:
-Has a me-first attitude
-Horrible in the locker room when things go wrong
-Most likely would cause chemistry issues
-Probably thinks he`s better than Jose Calderon
-Loses game by himself, I wonder how the tj ford haters would react to him

But there`s a point BC traded jason Kidd to get him before. He likes Stephon`s game, that`s for sure. But I think Starbury scared him out of ever acquiring him again.

That's an insult to Mike Tyson. He's just developmentally challenged. Marbury exhibits the signs of manic psychosis.

Character issues asside, it depends on which Marbury will show up. If its the same 20 and 10 Marbury, BC should go for him now. He isn't even that old, so I doubt the guy declined.

Dead horse? I haven't seen any threads talking about Marbury on this team so I don't know what you are talking about. I started this thread due to an current article on the wiretap about a potiential buyout of his contract. Last week it looked like Marbury was going to sit in street clothes or sent home for the rest of the season...

BC may not have the freedom to do this deal. He may not think Marbury is sane enough to play professional basketball. However there is no denying Marbury is a skilled player who would address some major weaknesses on this team and could cost us only MLSE money.

Obviously it is extremely unlikely we pick him up but it is worth a look.

I cannot think of another mininium signing that could actually be worth the 5 million in luxary tax if it actually worked out.

What about this..

trade Bosh/Calderon/Bargnani/JO/Kapono for Marbury, Zach Randolph, Nate Robinson, Eddy Curry, Q-Rich (might be hard for the Knicks to take this deal..but we could always add 3 first round picks to go along with it)

trade Ukic for Steve Francis

trade Anthony Parker for Matt Bonner + Anthony Tolliver

Fire Mitchell + Colangelo and make Isiah both GM and coach

Curry/Tolliver/Jawai
Humphries/Randolph/Bonner
Q-rich/Moon
Joey Graham/Hassan Adams
Marbury/Francis/Robinson/Solomon

Looks pretty good...we build around Joey and Humphries, which is why Randolph's coming off the bench.

Well, in support of OP, I say this is low risk, high "short term" reward signing.... provided Starbury will accept a vet minimum to play a bench role.

aside his mental issues ?

we could certainly use him at SG, the guy can flat out play the game and he is very talented, he would be that guy that could break down the opposing team's defense at easy for us.

it sucks to see someone so talented like him have such a big ego  , and disrupt every team he has played for. :noway: :noway: :noway:
