The Best Week of Your Life: Sundiata Gaines

Ok, this is a nice combination of videos that makes you feel a bit better about the NBA in contrast to the GIlbert Arenas story:

Sundiata Gaines Gets the News he's Being Called up to the Jazz and Calls his Mom

Sundiata Gaines Makes Game Winning Shot Against LeBron's Cavs on TNT & Gets Post Game Interview!!

DAMNIT, I was watching the game, and I stopped watching with the Cavs up 3 and the Jazz were intentionally fouling (less than minute left in the game)........

should've known AP would choke on the free throws..

I still don't get the Kobe vs Lebron debates, right now, I easily take Lebron as the MVP, he just took over that game, Cavs were dead in the water before he took over... When a guy swishes fadeaway threes, finishes AND-1 plays WITH A THROWDOWN, not much a team can do to stop him...

If LBJ gets a legit second option next year whereever he ends up, that team becomes a championship contender by default

Makes one wonder if Gaines, an undrafted d-leager, can get minutes at the end of a game, why is our lottery pick, Demar DeRozan, sitting on the bench for 95% of 4th quarters?

I watched the game last night, when he hit that three I'm not going lie I jumped out of my seat and I'm not even a Jazz fan. One thing I remember is in the last 15 seconds or so the Jazz didn't use there last timeout to advance the ball, instead Sloan saved it which turned out to be the right move. That's HOF coaching.

Good post... you gotta love feel good stories like that.

Chalk that up with the autistic kid who made 6 3-pointers in the last couple minutes of his only high school game!

I don't know which story is better?

His first career three-pointer, and it's a buzzer-beater. You're so getting a 99 clutch rating in NBA Live 2002 for that, Gaines.

You can't call travel on 26 foot fadeaway threes.......

I was watching the Jazz game, and I recall the following sequence
Lebron hits a three..
Lebron gets an and-one,
Lebron gets to the free throw line, misses second free throw, Varejao tips the offensive rebound to him, hits the three
Lebron hits a fadeaway three over CJ Miles from at leat 26 feet, mid right....

9 of his 13 points in that sequence were from three....

Can't even call him for travel anymore, because his jumpshot has shown considerable improvement, unlike when he dominated the Pistons in the playoffs...

You can't take a 5-foot step back (from inside the top free thrown circle to behind the 3-point line) without it being called a travel... unless you're Lebron.

I think that says more about the Cavs horrible lack of depth than anything about our team.

Will no one ever learn?

That wasn't the 26 foot fadeaway three!
Take out that three, he still scored 17 points in the 4th quarter.....

The refs aren't giving him ALL of those points, James has hit several clutch shots, and is worthy of the praise he receives for what he does.... Most ppl gush over Bryant, DWade so why the massive hate for Lebron????

He's carrying three good role players (West, Varejao, Mo Williams) and a bunch of bench players or washed up talent (Big Z, Shaq, Hickson, AP, Jawad Williams, Gibson) to the top of the NBA (best record? if I'm not mistaken)

Superstars get superstar calls. 4th quarter, Lebron with the ball, they are not calling anything on that guy. It was 100% a travel in any league in the world. You can't grab a rebound and step back over the 3 pt line without dribbling. Its like crabwalk 2.0....

But back on topic, good for Gaines. Even if he never plays another NBA game and goes back to D-League he will always have that memory. I hope he sticks with the Jazz.
