Contention next season?

Post#1 » by PaKii94 » Wed Mar 22, 2023 8:37 pm

With the assets the Jazz have and the trajectory of Lauri+ the rooks, I don't think jazz can lose enough without fully dismantling this team. And if the culture is gone, it's hard to go back to winning ways (already experienced this as a bulls fan :noway: )

I think we should go the other way and consolidate those assets while the rooks are still on rookie scale contracts.

I'd go hard after Dame with the Utah connection + Portland looking like rebuilding again.

Then also looking for a high caliber wing (jaylen brown with his recent comments come to mind)

Dame/ochai/brown/Lauri/Kessler imo is a well balanced lineup with a lot of fire power.

Dunn/Clarkson off the bench could be a legit guard duo too.

Maybe I'm too optimistic but I'm really encouraged with the bones of the roster after the performances the last few games

Dame would probably be an easy get but do we really want that contract? Brown or Doncic would be my main focus.
Ingles is cooked.

Contract is nasty but I think the books can handle it while Lauri is on a very valuable contract and the rooks are rookie scale. Dame would fit well with the current core though. He has the vet experience and the clutch factor while still being able to lead a team. His defensive deficiencies can be covered I think.

It's a unique but good situation to be able to absorb that kind of contract. I would love to have Dame on the bulls but they are hamstrung and low on assets.

Brown would be a good add but he's not a piece that alone would vault the team into contention. Would still need another super star.

Obviously would love to have doncic but it seems like mavs and his breakup would be at least a few years away.

I just want to make moves now where spending can be done without losing any core pieces. Once Lauri/Kessler/obaji get paid it will be much harder to

There has been a few times where Doncic's name has ben mentioned. Is that wishful thinking or is there a little fire with that smoke?

Brown is a true interest especially after reading his comments about loyally. That is one aspect the jazz have had over the years with its star players and that's loyalty. I'd love him on this team. Doncic, not sure how I feel about his unbelievable need to dominate the ball. he is amazing, but still only a one man show, not sure how that would work with this group.

I think any talk of Doncic is incredible wishful thinking. The truth is, except for very, very rare circumstances, stars push themselves to where they want to go. I love Luka, but Luka also loves the spotlight; he'll push himself to a big market.

What big market has assets for Luka? Brooklyn is the only one I can think of, and they would have to include Bridges with their picks from Phoenix. That seems like a worse situation than Dallas. I guarantee he will go to a team with a lot of assets that can win. Utah is at the top of the list because of Markannen and Kessler.

I think it's been proven multiple times that superstars like Luka are pulled less by a team's assets than by their location, tradition, and attractiveness to other stars. If the Mavs trade Luka, it's because he's asked to leave and they're worried he'll walk in free agency (which isn't for four years). If the Mavs are worried, I don't think UTA stands a chance.

This reminds me of when people talked about Lebron going to smaller market teams where he could win immediately. I remember having people talking about how San Antonio could clear enough space for him (in 2010) and why wouldn't he want to go there with Duncan and Pop. Instead, he forged his own path to play in the market and with the players he wanted - I expect Luka to do the exact same. Speaking of Pop and SAS why wouldn't Luka pick their, similar amount of assets (including a great chance at #1 this year), legend coach, doesn't have to move far, and more salary cap room this year to bring in other players?

I love Lauri but I don't think he's got the credibility around the league yet to draw other players on the level of Luka.
