Hendricks extension

Post#1 » by bkohler » Sun Oct 5, 2025 6:58 pm

Just saw the Jovic extension with the heat, I think that probably sets the market for Taylor extension talks assuming he stays healthy.

Would you do 4/62 for Taylor?

Given that he hasn't played in a year and he's got only 46 games under his belt for his career, I think this discussion is astonishingly premature. I'm excited to watch him play this season and content to leave it at that for now, but you do you.

Right now Hendricks should be in the 8-10M per year range, a bit like where Exum was. Not his fault, but he hasn't shown much.

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

His extension is based on his contract years; we could not extend him and do the RFA game, but regardless the conversation is coming up this year no matter how much he’s played. 4/62 if the MLE next year, so I think it’s basically the Exum contract when factoring the cap inflation.

I'd sign him at $12M - $14M/year. Basically that's Dorian Finney-Smith money and should be a good enough deal for the Jazz.

Outside of the absolute no-brainer deals—max contract guys and keepers willing to sign a bargain extension around their QO or the NTMLE—I'm of the opinion that franchises are better off letting the others hit restricted free agency. Case in point, the extensions that the Rockets gave out the last two offseasons were downright idiotic.

Unless Hendricks falls into one of those categories above, the FO really doesn't need to address this for another two years.

How can we possibly be worrying about an extension for a guy who has played half a season.

It's probably premature, but if the Jazz still believe in his potential and long-term development, then this can be a good opportunity to get him on a bargain deal. Of course, he can choose to bet on himself, show signs of growth and garner a larger offer next offseason or two, but if he gets injured again he might find himself out of the league or signing minimum offers.

If I’m reading the previous comments right the Jazz have to offer some minimum amount due to the new CBA?? If thats the case I would be very careful signing him. Unless we can sign him to some crazy good bargain it seems very risky. However if he is just crushing it in the start of the season it’s a different discussion.

His measurements and three point shooting make me much more comfortable gambling than an Exum type signing. Barring injury this guy should have a decent long role in the league.

Someone can correct me but unless I’m mistaken this coming offseason is the only time we’d be able to extend him. We can just do what we’re doing with Kessler and have him play out the next two years and then sign him as a RFA. But the window for an extension is just next offseason

That’s why I brought up Jovic; he’s another player who is a bit more theoretical than actual. I agree that maybe just going the RFA route might be the way to go.
