If we can package it in a deal to get a defensive big man, then yes. I would trade it. I personally think the Knicks have the tools to be a good team in the East. It's just their direction and coaching and constant turmoil as the result of the coaching that plagues the team. Wouldn't be shocked at all to see Larry Brown (who isnt done coaching at all), or George Karl (could get fired), or even a return to New York by Jeff Van Gundy. I think they could at least add more wins to the NYK belt, and I really dont see the KNicks being an awful team in 2010. If we can get a defensive big out of it, then do it.

No we've got to hold on to that pick, because their is a great chance that New York is going to be awful in 09/10 as they try to clear massive cap room to go after a big name free agent (or two). I wouldn't say its likely (yet) but there is a very good chance that the pick will be in the Top 6. I, for one, hope Dolan signs Zeke to a nice fat extension post haste.

O'Connor said that the value of the pick is about a 6. So yeah, it can be part of the discussion, but it would be a valuable bargaining chip.

**** NO
The only way I even consider it is if we get someone like Chandler, Camby, Biedrins or Noah in return.
That pick could very well end up being our "get over the hump" pick. The only way we trade it is if we get major value in return. Of course, if Fess develops, we could easily have no holes when that draft comes. Our SG situation suddenly looks very promising, we have an elite young PG. A dominant do-it-all swingman/defensive ace, and a great inside/outside scoring combo upfront. The only thing we need is a defensive presence inside, which Fess has shown signs of becoming. As long as we can keep our bench play up, this team will go far.

Eh? With how terrible the Knicks are at the moment, if they show any improvement over the next couple of years (and who knows, that's a LONG way away), I'd say the pick's value can get a LOT lower than it is.

A pick like this could help us land a key player to 'get over the hump' like E23 said...and at the same time lose some dead weight. But, it might turn out to be a franchise pick ala Lebron. I guess it comes down to which direction the Jazz want to go at the time.
I bet we use it's value and take advantage of a 2-3 year window where we can compete for a championship. That is what I would do.

I don't see it. At best they might manage to squeak out a 8th seed in the East, but even then the strength of the west might throw them under the 22 threshold at draft day.
They would have to have a Bostesque type of turn around in 08-09 for this pick to lose value... but they don't have marketable players like Boston did.

I personally think we need to start thinking about starting this championship window in 2-3 yrs. Older west teams will fade, hopefully our young guys (Mo, CJ, Brewer, Fess, Millsap) continue to develop. I just dont see this team as a core winning a title, thats why I was pro blowing the team up now. I love AKs game, but if he plays really well for the rest of the season, I kind of think we have to trade him. His value will be at an all time high, and perhaps we can make a Eddy Curry or Joe Johnson type steal from another team. Hopefully that knicks pick pans out to be someone like Deandre Jordan.

Yeah thats a given, especially with Sloan at coach. Im sure he would have benched Lebron, Dwight Howard etc. for half a season too.

In most situations that comment would have been considered sarcastic....to bad it wasnt.
