Indeed, why didn't some other team step up to the plate?
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I'm sure other teams would have stepped up if they knew Gasol was going to be traded for garbage. It's was a blatant secret trade to improve the Lakers that was purposely overlooked by the NBA due to LA being a large market team and the NBA hoping to cash in on another Lakers/Celtics rivalry. Generally everyone knows the deals and offers being made for a big money player like Gasol. This deal was done so fast that I don't even remember hearing speculation about other offers besides the Lakers. It was as if nobody else even had a chance.

?? All of you are forgetting about how damn good the West is this year. There are really 9 or so teams in the West with championship potential and ANYTHING can happen in the playoffs. I know alot of people last year were expecting Dallas to go all the way or to get to the WCF and look what happened. A lot of people didn't expect the Jazz to overcome not having homecourt advantage and beat Houston. And especially this year with the race being so close and having such an even playing field in the Western Conference, you can't predict a thing. I'm not worried at all, because with this Jazz team, I'm more confidence and comfortable with our chances against great teams then I am against poor teams.

Jazz will be fine.

You need to remember that regardless of whether we win the championship this year or not, the future is brighter for the Jazz than most of the other Western Conference teams. With the relative youth of the Jazz players we'll still be contending years from now when Kobe, Duncan, etc. are all needing walkers to get up and down the court.

Bingo. Kobe is 30 years old, Deron is 23. Duncan is 32, Boozer is 27. We have a good window to make it happen. But overall, what is impressive is that we are this good with the 5th youngest team in the NBA. Remember we were 2nd youngest in the NBA until all those trades that unloaded teams of vets. But before that, I mean, we are clear out youngest.

Let's check the standings:
[1] San Antonio Spurs - Average Age: 31.2 Oldest
[2] Los Angeles Lakers - Average Age: 25.9
[3] Houston Rockets - Average Age: 27.6
[4] New Orleans Hornets - Average Age: 27.2
[5] Utah Jazz - Average Age: 25.1 Youngest
[6] Phoenix Suns - Average Age: 29.1
[7] Dallas Mavericks - Average Age: 29.5
[8] Golden State Warriors - Average Age: 25.4
---------
[9] Denver Nuggets - Average Age: 27.4
[10] Portland TrailBlazers -Average Age: 24.0

The difference between us an Golden State, is that Golden State isn't going anywhere. We have gone to the Western Conference finals. Analysts consider us as contenders and we are very young.

Lakers also have a lot of youth into it, since their last unloading of crap (Brown, etc.). They will be our nemesis for a while. But Kobe Bryant is the motor, heart, and soul of the team. Expect them to start wanning once he becomes older. I mean, Deron Williams is 23, Kobe 30. When Deron is 30 and in his prime putting 25 PPG and 15 AST, Kobe will be asking for a trade to the Jazz for a chance to win a championship again.

We are flat out the youngest team in the NBA. Expect inconsistencies.

Hornets traded Baron for Speedy Claxton and cap relief.

At least the Grizz got 2 draft picks. Hornets got zero draft picks.

Trades like these happen all the time.

Get over it.

The Jazz are second the Lakers in point differential in the Western Conference ahead of the Spurs, Lakers, and Suns. Let's hope Gasol is out for awhile.

The thing is that even though we are young and all, we're still barely younger than the Lakers.

Their core is older than our core. Bryant is older than Brewer, Fisher is older than Williams, Gasol is older than Boozer, Odom is older than Kirilenko, and Bynum is younger than anyone on our team.
