I really don't consider it a dunk if your hand doesn't touch the rim. That would be a layup.

I didn't think it was a dunk either. I'd refer to it as a MAD THROW DOWN!

It was spectacular. That ball only had a small margin of error to go into that basket given the angle of attack. You see that kind of crap bounce off the back of the rim to half court most times. But, he did it on his first attempt. Made it look easy. Plus, I thought the cape was very cool for the kids.

First of all, it was awesome.

BUT... if not for the Superman cape, it wouldn't have come off nearly as well, and the "was it a dunk?" bit might actually have been debated on the spot.

It's honestly not much of a dunk, "definition" aside. The thing is what if you thrust the ball through the hoop, but avoid touching the rim, which often happens, then is it not a dunk? To me the ball literally has to be with in a few inches from the rim when released to be really be a dunk, but year by definition you can dunk the ball throwing it down from 96 feet.
