Yeah the Mars Volta rock but most people probably wouldn't like them. I saw Muse like 4 years ago...they are such an amazing live band.

I listened to a LOT of pixies in high school. They were one of my favorites. Still one of my top 10 bands.

I'm in the crowd that is hoping for a Men at Work reunion.

-shrug-

I'm just not cool enough for this crowd.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

No kidding.

I don't mind sharing however.

Although I do have my humble beginnings in Jazz and New Age, I have grown to become much more of an follower of a Comtemporary Instrumental.

From classical, I adore Antonin Dvorak to my favorite Sergei Rachmaninoff.

This is from Sergei's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORP4dlwNsKM

Also I love instrumental artists, and I think my great love reside on this simple and emotional music. Here is a duet by Patrice Rushen and Karen Briggs

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9-UJ5rL0o8

But I must say, my favorite person to buy discs from has to be Yanni. What a way to transform a genre. Take as an example his song For All Seasons, and his ingenious composition prowess in which these world class artists ensemble a powerful dose of Classical and New Age.

I must say that Yanni is definitely my genre, and my music affinity is based around classical fundamentals. I hate people singing, and I prefer voice used as a musical instrument.

No people, I don't enjoy MoTab.

I love that new Alicia Keys CD...and while I dont listen to Rihanna ever she is hot...thats for sure.

Hey FJS I have question, is that what they call hip-hop/rap/r&b in europe? I only ask cuz my cousin who is in the czech took a picture of a bunch of music under the genre of black music. I found that funny that it wasnt listed as what genre it actually was.

Well... not really, the genres are hip-hop/r&b as in USA, but we use to call black music, because they have one style, one rithm, one voices that white don't have (or the most of all). So if you say in europe you like black music everyone will understand you like hip-hop/r&b.

Yeah no kidding. Who the hell are these bands you all are talking about? It sounds like the crap my girlfriend listens to. I listen to Zeppelin, Hendrix, Doors, Bob Marley, and also some good 80's butt rock like Motley Crue, Poison, Tesla, Iron Maiden.

Guess I need to get with the times. Although I do enjoy Slightly Stoopid I saw them in Park City just a couple weeks ago.

Anybody else go to see Def Leppard, Styx, and Foreigner @ the Usana Amphitheater in September? That there is good music, but I gotta say it as much as I love Def, they kinda sucked. Styx is coming to Logan on July 3rd.

Might as well throw in Korn, Linkin Park, Metallica, James Blount, and NIN.

But mostly i'm into alot of progressive/independent music, i.e. The Mars Volta, Between the Buried and Me, Thrice, The Dillinger Escape Plan.

Also Muse, Botch, Johnny Cash, Kansas, Keith Urban, some Dreamtheater...a whole array of crap.

anybody wanna start a Billy Idol thread on here? He is the greatest entertainer of our time.

Im surprised there isnt that one dude that absolutely loves Journey. Or a Rush is the greatest band ever.

Yeah, I stopped following the new music scene closely long ago. That being said, when I do hear new music that I like I try and pick it up. iTunes is great for that!

I listen to a lot more classical music and movie scores than I do pop music. I am also a regular patron of the Opera.

Some of my all time favorites include Midnight Oil, Oingo Boingo (awesome opening concert at the Delta Center, btw), Barenaked Ladies (very entertaining live), The Police, Billy Joel, and pre "Achtung Baby" U2. I don't listen to a lot of country, but I do really like Johnny Cash.

oh my goodness Colors is so amazing...it's in my car right the freak now.

As for the Motab comment, I have to admit I think they're amazing. I think anyone who gives them a decent shot will grow into it. "Peace like a River"...great album.

now that i've alienated myself completely...

i have to agree with dingo on almost all the bands he listed as well; honestly alot of older/classic rock is just plain better in so many ways when compared to modern alternative rock...alot of those bands would get NO radio play today, **** major record labels taking over everything we hear.

It seems like, more and more, you have to go underground to find true musicianship in genres of rock music.
