Jazz vs. Zone

Post#1 » by jazzfan1971 » Mon Apr 14, 2008 7:15 pm

It's inevitable that the Jazz will see plenty of zone defense in the playoffs to disrupt our pick and roll. In fact, I've seen more teams full court press us this year than ever, likely to shorten our shot clock.

My question is, have the Jazz overcome their weakness against the zone? Will we be that same team that tries to force unwise passes into a crowded paint resulting in easy turnovers for the other team? Or will we play a smart offense that attacks the weaknesses of the zone resulting in easy baskets for the Jazz?

Will a full court press combined wih a zone throw off our team so much that we go on a 5-10 minute field goal drought when the playoffs are on the line?

Is Ronnie Brewer teh 'real' zone buster on this team with his knack to get lost behind defenses?

I believe that the Jazz can figure out a zone in any given game. Sometimes the Jazz act surprised and for a couple of possesions look lost and don't know what to do.

We have so many guys who can shoot the long ball, and I agree that Brewer does a great job of getting lost on the baseline for layups, I don't see teams being able to zone us for long periods of time. I think teams will use it as a change of pace and then quickly get back to man to man.

The only way a zone kills us if we settle for the 3 and have cold shooting.

Korver, Memo and Deron are all legit zone busters. Ronnie Price can also stretch the floor, and usually all it takes is 2 good possesions to gets teams to switch back to man to man.

I'm not worried about it.

It helps when the three ball is rolling because it helps spread things out then we can smash with Booz,Matty and Milsap!

Our problem with the zone is that it takes us awhile to figure it out. What I mean is, it takes about 5-10 possessions before we finally get into a rhythm against it and finally force them out. ESPECIALLY when Brewer is on the floor because he's so hesitant to hoist away from the perimeter.
