D's Will

Post#1 » by Neon Black » Tue Apr 15, 2008 3:36 am

http://www.nba.com/statistics/statsllc_index.html

"Deron Williams has scored 1,523 points, handed out 851 assists and shot .509 from the field this season. He has joined Magic Johnson (1986-87 and 1988-89) and Kevin Johnson (1988-89) as the only players in league history to score 1,500 points, hand out 800 assists and shoot 50 percent from the field in a single season."

That's some fine company...especially for a third year player.

And I expect Deron to do it at least 8 more times. He's so efficient from the field and his passing is just superb (and just getting better and better)

True, though his shooting seems to have cooled off going into the playoffs here. I think the great thing about Deron is that he creates so many opportunities when he is on the floor. The whole team seems to have easier passes when he is out there. He is THE MAN.

You know, I might be crazy to say this, but.....and even with his high TO rate taken into consideration....I think he might be the best decision maker in the NBA. I mean, he is so patient, so unbelievably in control at all times, and he almost never forces a bad play or gets caught up in the moment. He's such an unbelievably talented player mentally. He has amazing control of his emotions. He's tough as nails both in that respect as well as physically so, and he has a "basketball IQ" that is off the charts. Its an honor to be able to watch him.

Yeah, I was thinking about that tonight after he got that ridiculous tech. A lot of players would keep arguing with the ref throughout the rest of the game and likely get tossed. That would probably have lost the game for us. But I watched DWill closely, and he took it upon himself to calm down and take command of the game and close it out. That is HUGE for a third year player who seems to thrive on being angry. Those types typically can't control their emotions, but Deron was able to keep it bottled. I can't say how impressed I was by that.

Make no mistake, Deron WANTED that technical, and he wasn't going to stop jawing at the ref until he got it.

I know, but a lot of times when a player does that, they will keep jawing at the ref for the rest of the game, and likely get tossed. D kept his cool...

That, and the fact that he wouldnt give the ref the ball until he called the tech. I loved it!!

But HD is right...after that he calmed down and avoided getting the 2nd tech, even after a few other questionable calls.

Good achievement. Sad it doesn't compare to some of Chris's great achievements this year, but I guess the forte of Williams is efficient shooting while Paul's is efficient passing.

sad? do you realize ppl would run over their dog to get Deron to join their team in free agency? obviously Chris didn't do that this year.

sad....nuh uh. he's a stud.

btw, deron could teach chris how to shoot. have you seen chris lately? god, i think he airballed a shot last night against the clippers! he definitely wearing out lately.

btw, thank god the hornets and the jazz probably won't face each other in the first round. it'll give our team some much need experience against the rucker park team that calls themselves the Denver Nuggets.

I just finished watching that championship Promo on the NBA shoot around where several of the players (AI, Kobe, Kidd, Duncan, etc...) in the playoffs were asked the question about what a championship would mean to them, and I was impressed with Deron's remark, he was the only guy to my recollection that used the word we instead of I or me. I think that says/shows a lot about his character as an individual.
