Morris Almond - Larry Bird a fan?

Post#1 » by rmdlwa » Tue May 13, 2008 4:17 am

Hopeful of acquiring a first-round pick to use on Rice sharpshooter Morris Almond, the team (Indiana) couldn't complete that deal ...

"There was a guy we targeted in the first round and we thought we'd have an opportunity to get him but he was taken a little bit before the pick we were going to get," Bird said. "

I would demand another first or a rotational player who can actually contribute.

Yeah, I would do Foster for Almond and cap filler (Hart + Collins should do it), even though it kind of pains me to do so.

I'm pretty sure that Mo will be a player in this league. He just seems to be built for it. The Jazz have really been on a nice streak in the draft these last few years.

We should keep Mo, CJ and Brew as our future SG/SF rotation.
I should be on Lacob payroll...

I think a lot of people see korver as our backup 3 in time.

Well those people are stupid. He is not big enough, or athletic to guard west sf's on a regular bases.

Also I quoted Jozer, and he said SG/ AND SF....

I would hate to lose MoNutt...but the bottom line is we do have a logjam at the 2/3 position.

If we can get value to move Almond then why not. We have plenty of young talent at those positions.

korver is streaky and when his shot is off, he doesn't contribute a whole lot since he's a terrible 1 on 1 defender. CJ IS THE FUTURE

Mo is cheap and young. This offseason we stick with the good theory of addition by subtraction; move Collins and Hart for a philly cheesesteak and insert Mo and Fes.

So your in favor of Mo over CJ? And if not then where does Mo get playing time? Im all for Fes getting minutes but I dont see how almond does.

If Almond has a future in the NBA, it just isn't on the Jazz squad as presently constituted.

Ahead of Almond at the 2/3 positions are Brewer, Korver, Harpring, AK and Miles. Of those 5, I think that it is 40% likely that AK is moved this offseason and about 50% that Miles won't be with us, particularly if Dallas is really as interested as they seem in CJ. So at best, Almond would rank as #4, and probably no higher than #5 in the depth chart going into next year. Almond's value will be cut by about 25% after the draft with infatuation over the new set of rookies, so if we can pull off some combination of Almond, Hart, Collins and this year's 1st rd dp for Foster and a future #1, we ought to take it and run.

i did not say this... I'm a huge CJ fan and think if AK gets moved he should be our starter. Almond can assume CJ's old role, getting scrap minutes and fill in when we have an injury. I think Harp will play one more year, then we'll have Almond, Korver, Brewer, and Miles... all of whom have the ability to play both the 2 and 3 in this offense.

Heres my prospective line up next season:

Deron/Price/draft pick
Brewer/Korver/Almond
Miles/Harpring
Boozer/Milsap
Okur/Free Agent/Fes.

Obviously loosing AK will hurt, but if we can get some good value in return I think it helps us in the long run. that line up is young and ATHLETIC, it will be attracting to any head coach so finding Sloan's replacement will not be a personel issue.
