Jazz / Clippers trade - fair value?

How reasonable is an offer that centers around Okur, Ronnie Brewer and either Morris Almond or the Jazz 2008 #1 pick and the 2010 NY unprotected #1 pick for Kaman and Brevin Knight? Or, Okur, Harpring, Brewer and either Almond or 2008 #1 and the NY 2010 for Kaman and Mobley?

It's a lot to give up for Kaman, but I think he's the missing answer, and you have to pay a lot to get what we need.

If it's the second trade, we have a lineup of DWill, Mobley (or Miles), AK, Boozer and Kaman with a bench of Price, Miles, Korver, Milsap and Collins or Fesenko. Mobley is a little older and a little overpaid, but tough.

I could see this paying great dividends for us, but there is some risk here as well.

I like Kaman, and Brevin Knight would be a solid back up, but you have to realize the Jazz would be the one's giving up more talent in this trade which the Jazz don't want to do.

Unless the Jazz are getting an obvious right off the back improvement the chances they make a move are slim.

I don't know how much of an improvement Kaman would be over Okur. Our interior D would improve a bit but we'd really miss Memo's ability to take the other team's big man out of the paint with his outside shooting.

Kaman didn't have only one good year. He has been playing solid basketball for the past three years especially this year and two years ago. He has outrebounded (per minute) Brand in his past three years.
The fact that his team lost so many games is irrelevant. As far as i know Utah won only 26 games two years ago with Kirilenko , Boozer and Okur...

Kaman has never played with a point guard like Deron. With him he could become a scary player. He will never put up numbers like Boozer but he can defintiely have a bigger impact than him or Okur because he is a way way better defender and offensively he doesn't leave the paint (unlike Boozer and Okur who love jumpshots) and can get a real inside/outside game going.

Boozer would be terrific next to Kaman because nobody will be able to double team him anymore .

I would do that trade in a heartbeat. This is a trade that can bring a championship to Utah i'm sure of it.
Like i said in another thread , Okur is not a true center. Kaman is just that. What i like the most about him is that he is a tough player.

It's often said that you team needs to adapt its game to its star player. The Nash's Suns played with quickness ,shooting ability and do not defend. . The Duncan's Spurs plays with smarts , toughness , patience and great defense , the Paul's Hornets play with athleticism and intensity.

In our case we have a star that is the most powerful at its position. Deron is a tank , he is a very tough , physical player and he plays D. I would surround him with physical player that takes pride on D and hustle plays.
Kaman is one of those players.

Right now everybody is saying that Utah is a physical team , but aside from Millsap, Deron and Harpring nobody plays really physical.
Let's give them what they want , birng Kaman to our team and we will show the world what players like Kaman and Deron can do in the playoffs.

Don't like it at all. Memo/Kaman is reasonable, and LA would need a sweetener, but the likely lotto pick should be enough. Don't include Brew.

I don't like that move at all. We are giving up two starters and a potential high up lottery pick for Kaman. I definitely don't think he's worth that much. Plus KOC always says he won't make a deal unless it makes our team better. Kaman would be a good pick up for the team, but we're giving up way too much.

I think getting rid of the main piece of our offense that is able to spread a big off of Boozer is a terrible idea. We saw how effective Boozer was vs. a constantly crowded lane.

Okur spreading of the floor for Boozer is completely overrated. Anyway why is Boozer spending more and more time on the perimeter , Okur musn't be that effective then.

People thought that Stoudemire and Shaq would bother each other but it was the other way around.
If Boozer has somebody next to him that is a good finisher inside and a very good offensive rebounder , it's impossible for the offensive team to double either one of them.
If they double him he would just have to dump it to Kaman who would get the dunk or the free throw.

To win in the nba you win an inside outside game. Both our bigs spends too much time on the perimeter , so that inside outside game is not there anymore. With Kaman we would have somebody that can play in the paint non stop and the opponent would always have to guard the basket. That would make Boozer's jumper way more effective and the defense wouldn't be able to crowd him because there is a seven footer with good hands waiting under the basket.
Okur's spreading is great but points in the paint > three pointers any time .

Reasons:
Would clear up the shooting guard situation. It would give us the defensive center that we need. It would also add a piece in Tim Thomas that can play small forward or power forward. A draft pick or two would probably have to be included for the Clippers to go for it. We would probably have to give up the NY pick.

To be honest, I wouldn't even do a straight swap of Kaman for Okur. In my opinion, the trades listed have the Jazz giving up way, way too much for him. He's a nice player, but I'll take the durable, likable, clutch, and consistently improving Memo.

I'm not a Kaman fan so I would say no thank you. And I would love to see Morris Almond get some minutes. I know D League is different then real NBA but he has a ton of potential and I would like to see him realize it in a Jazz uniform.
