Millsap, Villanueva, and/or Bass? Or just stick with Boozer?
Whoever thought of whether Boozer is going to jump ship to go to Miami is of great concern to the brass of the Jazz, because what makes us different from Cleveland in this situation? Miami can offer him more money if they want and plus his family is in South Florida. What more for Carlos, we can't offer either of those for him. The real question is why would we for a guy that is top tier offensive player in the NBA, but plays as good defense as much as his nickname tells 'the matador'! Really he is not worth a max contract, because a player that doesn't really have any 'power' in his game and he is called our power forward, does he ever go up for that power slam or take it hard to the basket really more then once in every five games or if ever? The answer is 'NO' its always a hook or finger roll on either side, his 6 to 16 foot jumper is great but those shots aren't always for your 'power' forward! Not to mention his great toughness on defense...lol...geez it makes myself laugh every time I think about it. So really do we just wait it out to see if he really is going to opt out to go toMiami or not? Thats not even a question to me really cause all the signals are that we are just shooting ourselves in the foot if we invest more time into Carlos Boozer.
The debate is then do we just give the reigns to Paul Millsap or is he nothing better then a great bench, energy, and role player? Or do we bring in a Charlie Villanueva 6'11" 240 lbs or Brandon Bass 6'8" 240, both good players that have a great upside that know how to hit a good jumper and a both fair more powerful then Boozer, and that are only at the age of 23 and could actually both be picked up or just one them and we have three-way battle between them to bring out the starter. As the great Coach Sloan says competition is good. So what are your thoughts on this matter?
Here is how I would resolve the problem. The salaries and everything match, tell what you think and how you would resolve it?
Mavericks get: Shawn Marion and Daequan Cook
Heat get: Carlos Boozer, Jason Terry, and Eddie Jones
Bucks get: Josh Howard, Ronnie Brewer, and Jarron Collins
Jazz get: Michael Redd, Charlie Villanueva, and Brandon Bass
Potential depth for the Jazz
1 Williams/Price/Hart (hopefully opts out) then we go resign Dee Brown or Rookie
2 Redd/Korver/Almond/Miles (hopefully resign but if not oh well)
3 Kirilenko/Harpring/ (Miles or Rookie)
4 Bass or Millsap or Villanueva
5 Okur/Villanueva or Fesenko/ Rookie
...OR here is my fantasy team make up if we did trade Boozer and Kirilenko!
Mavericks get: Shawn Marion and Daequan Cook
Heat get: Carlos Boozer, Jason Terry, Eddie Jones, Jarron Collins, and Jason Hart
Bucks get: Andrei Kirilenko, Marcus Banks, and Ronnie Brewer

I wouldnt mind Bass and Millsap as our forwards but get off of redd, he provides shooting yes, anything else? hell no. Yeah utah is going to take Jho who admits to smoking pot in the offseason, im not saying no one on our team does it but they arent stupid enough to announce that they do. ANd we can offer more for boozer then the heat but chances are we wont. So either sign him to a max or trade him but not for a no defense, all I can do is shoot and sometimes I cant do that, max redd.

1) Eddie Jones and Shawn Marion have to resolve their early out options before such a trade could happen.
2) Dallas would be hitting the blow-it-up button on this one:
Dallas Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: -22.6 ppg, -3.7 rpg, and -4.1 apg.
They are giving up Howard, Terry, Jones, and Bass for Marion and Cook? Maybe only if they are hoping to be clear of salary when Marion expires and make a run at LeBron...
3) Milwaukee gets very little for having given up Redd AND Villanueva in Bong Howard, Brewer (same position as Howard), and Collins.
4) Miami and the Jazz come out smelling sweet. Miami gets 2 starters (Terry and Boozer) for one (Marion). The Jazz give up Boozer and a couple fillers really and get back Redd, Bass, AND Villanueva. So sweet in fact and there is no way the others would do it.

I would LOVE to see Redd in a Utah Jazz uniform maybe more than any other player in the league right now because I think he would fit in perfectly here and fill in the gap that is missing for a championship, but does Boozer really need to go? Couldn't we just trade Harpring, Hart, and Collins for him?

The Bucks and Mavs are getting raped in most of those scenarios.
And vain -- Harpring, Hart, and Collins for [an overpaid, but still max] Max player? Redd's overrated, but that trade is still a slap in the face to Milwaukee. It's basically: "Here's a solid bench player and some garbage. Now give us your best player."

Bass would be great, but not at the expense of Booz.
No no it makes complete sense. Lets trade for a max SG whose game does not match this system one bit. Redd will be the more expensive version of Korver, genius.

If you guys hate Boozer on defense, you'll equally hate Villanueva on defense as well.. or maybe not, cuz he hasn't really played for a defensive coach in his NBA career.. But he is more offensively gifted than Boozer and is actually a pretty good passer for his 6'11" size.. infact he has guard like skills.. BUT consistency is the key for him.. if he is given the confidense from Sloan, he could become Boozer v2.0 with a more versatile offense. Unlike Boozer, he has running floaters, jump hook, baby hook, a good jumper all the way out to the 3pt line and is more athletic than Boozer..
As for Redd, you guys are better off without him.. the guy is a cancer and a chucker who is earning max money..

lol.. Boozer gets his opportunities thanks to DWill running the show.. yes he can finish with either hand, I'll give you that.. but there's no way his offense is more versatile than villanueva.. polished? yes.. versatile? no.. Villanueva is one of those tweener forwards who can create their own shot..
That being said, boozer at this point is a far more accomplished player than villanueva..

Uh...Charlie V is a 45% career shooter. Boozer shot over 50% even before he played with Deron. Versatility is overrated. Who cares if Charlie has handles if he can't hit shots consistently?Raptors90102 wrote:-= original quote snipped =-

Boozer's rookie year: 10 pts, 8 rbs
Charlie V's rookie year: 13 pts, 6 rbs
Boozer's second year: 16 pts, 11 rbs
Charlie V's second year: 12 pts, 6 rbs
Boozer's third year: 18 pts, 9 rbs
Charlie V's third year: 12 pts, 6 rbs
Villanueva is running in place. And just so you know, none of Boozer's numbers above came courtesy of Deron Williams, who wasn't in the league when he recorded them.
Does Charlie take it off the dribble better than Boozer? Yeah. Can he jack up threes at a 32 percent clip? Yeah. Are those the only things he does better than Boozer? Yeah.

I think he clearly mentioned that Booz is a lot more polished player than CV. So I don't know why is there a need to compare stats. And Boozer put up those stats starting on a meiocre cleveland team and was one of their go to guys. CV on the other hand, is stuck behing self-proclaimed alpha dogs like Redd and Mo Williams. Add Bogut into the mix as a 3rd option, an injury plagued 2nd season where he missed half the season and the played the rest with pain in his shoulder, and a 3rd season playing behind a chinese rookie who was guaranteed minutes, you can see why CV has had a mediocre career so far.
I think raptors90102 merely suggested that CV is more versatile, I don't think he suggested that he is a better player than Boozer.
That being said, I would love to have a player like CV on the Spurs, our offense seems very limited and he could be a legit scorer for us. I think working in a good defensive system, he can be an acceptable defender as he has athleticism on his side. Our old guys can't score anymore.

He said Charlie was "more offensively gifted" than Boozer. That's like saying Tim Thomas is more offensively gifted than him, or Andrea Bargnani.
Is it better to be "okay" at a lot of things or "excellent" at a few of them? I know my answer, and it doesn't bode well for Villanueva.
