'Surprsing' veteran coach
how much you want to bet the 'surprising' veteran coach Chicago is talking to is Phil Johnson, he will probablly get the job and have Hornacek as his top assistant as 'coach in waiting'. cause I thought Collins got the job but nope he hasn't yet.

Hell, I'll one up that. Maybe the suprising veteran is Jerry Sloan. He played for the Bulls, went to college and lives in Illinois during the offseason, and was Chicago's coach in the late 1970's/early 1980's.

Jerry isnt going to leave utah for chicago, he wants to restart with a bunch of young guys? and throw away a jazz team that is close to being in the finals? I wouldnt be surprised if the surprise guy is Phil Johnson I just hope if he or corbin go we can get john or jeff as a an assistant.

I floated that idea on the Chicago message board yesterday..I guess just wishful thinking on my part.

why do you want a completely new coach? what if he bombs? then okur and boozer arent going to want to stick around and we can lose them for nothing. Sloan simply gives us the best chance at winning a title. If sloan were to be fired any team without a coach would almost just give him the job over the phone.

How could a new coach win less rings than Jerry has won for us? And I wouldnt say that Sloan being here is going to be a sticking point for Boozer and Okur, it may in fact be a negative....I guarantee we have lost out on free agents because he was here.

a new coach could bomb and forget about winning a ring he could very well miss the playoffs. Screw up the locker room, you dont know how it can go. Jazz need to bring in the future coach to learn under sloan. But right now sloan gives us the best chance at winning period

Jerry coached in Chicago before and it wasn't a good experience for him. Their management said his job wasn't in jeopardy even though the team was having some issues and then they blindsided him with a firing.
Jerry would never have the same security that he has in Utah anywhere else--LHM is a relationship guy and has such a long, close relationship with Jerry that I don't ever see him firing Jerry (right or wrong).
Phil I could see because he has to decide what he wants in the longer-term. Stay in Jerry's shadow for now and take over when he is gone or set himself up for what he wants over the next few years. He isn't a kid who has all the time in the world left.
