Utah-Char trade

Post#1 » by GP » Fri Jun 20, 2008 10:35 pm

Jazz trade Millsap and Okur for Okafor.

Why the Jazz do this:
They finally get the defensive center they need, one that is still very young. He has been somewhat of a disappointment from the bobcats perspective as he seems to be offensively challenged, however, with a decent pg he could put up very good numbers. He is a beast inside defensively and intimidating. AK can stay at SF, but can also play backup to boozer at the PF position (where he seemed to excel a few years ago). Thus creating some more playing time for our crop of sg/sf.

Why the Bobcats do this:
The bobcats are not looking to compete right away and are constant rebuilding. Okur helps them with some of their scoring that they desperately need. Millsap's stock couldn't be higher, he can start for the ever-injured sean may and once given min could become a solid starter. Finally, MJ is in the FO, which means as unlikely as this trade is, it could happen

I checked some the bobcats boards and here is a trade they proposed:

Bobcats Get: Tyrus Thomas, Chris Duhon, Thabo Sefolosha
Bulls Get: Emeka Okafor, Jeff McMinus, Othella Harrington

Most commented that the bulls wouldn't do this because the bobcats were offering too little. Thomas, Duhon and Sefolosha average 6ppg each. Of course just like this board, its just fans talking, just thought this hypothetical trade would be interesting.

No thanks.

He's never healthy and I like Milsap more then Okafor, Milsap is just as good of rebounder and has a fairly consistant jump shot.

I would have doubts about a Okur for Okafor deal straight up, and with Milsap too? No way.

What the HELL? No, no, no, no.

As fivas said, there's health concerns, Millsap's ceiling could potentially (no, not definitely) make him a better player than Oak has proven to be, and then you thrown in Okur? No way. This would be a terrible deal.

hmm, good points, we probably could get mek for less. Do people here even think okafor would be a decent fit here?

Jstock, your mancrush for millsap is admirable, but millsaps potential is where okafor is RIGHT NOW. If we talk about millsaps ceiling we should discuss Okafors. I watched this guy quite a bit this year and in college, I think we're just scratching the surface of what he can do. With a good pg, a solid system, another forward to draw attention Okafor would flourish. Really though its his defense where he can dominate. It also seems like his value is fairly low right now, so it might be a good time to start inquiring.

I think Okafor would be beloved here. Class act, great skill set, defensive minded, etc. the biggest challenge would be two fold, he has a laundry list of injury problems far greater than Booze or AK. And giving up Okur AND Milsap is paying too high a price. To Say milsap is better is way overvaluing Sap, but within the bounds of the current roster, Sap is valuable and highly valuable. IF you say Milsap or Okafor I would that O. If you say Milsap, and Okur or Okafor, I say Milsap and Okur. It's a tough scenario, but I do think Okafor is just what the doctor ordered for the Jazz

I like Okur A LOT, but I would still dothis deal. We have got to get a defensive presence ion the post, and Okafor would be a great fit. Yeah, giving up Millsap hurts, but you gotta give to get.
