OT: Crazy off season drama

Post#1 » by carrottop12 » Wed Jul 9, 2008 3:42 am

So first it was B-Diddy surprising the Warriors by opting out of his contract with the Warriors.

Then Brand opted out from the Clippers, only to have B-Diddy sign with the Clippers, and assume that Brand was going to resign make a formidable tandem for the future.

Then, Golden State offers Brand all the money in the world in order to spite the Clippers which entices Brand.

Brand, then sits and thinks about what to do and who to sign with.

During this time, Philadelphia is courting Josh Smith, who visited Philly, but left with out a contract offer.

From there, Brand is still undecided and has obviously started talking to Philly, which was a big rumor before the season ended.

Then, out of nowhere Kevin McHale who sucks at his job, jobs the Sixers for a first round pick, and two solid rotation players for 5 million bucks.

Then, Brand in about half a day decides to Sign with the Sixers, screwing over both the Warriors and the Clippers.

Then, Maggette, who played for the Clippers, who was rumored to be going to the Spurs which would have made them the favorite for next season, signs with the newly jolted Warriors. Leaving the Clippers.

Now, Baron Davis has canceled his press conference set for tomorrow after he signed with the Clippers, leading some people to believe that now he is backing out of his verbal agreement with the Clippers, and is going to go somewhere else.

Basically, the Clippers went from being on top of the world with B-Diddy and Brand, are now looking like they are going to lose Baron Davis, Corey Maggette and Elton Brand in one offseason, and they are going to be left holding handfuls of money that they simply couldn't throw at people to keep them in the organization.

I love it.

Then they will overpay Josh Smith to hope the Hawks will not match. The Hawks will match anyways.

I've never heard of a player backing out of a verbal agreement.

I'll be very surprised to see that happen.

Still going from Brand to Davis is a big downgrade, and losing Maggette hurts.

IF they end up losing Davis also, wow.

I almost feel like they'd be better off dropping Davis. If Brand really walks, then they're in rebuilding mode. Even with Davis, they have no chance to make the playoffs out West. If I were them, I'd just consider this a lost year and try to hold on to the cap space.

I can't imagine Davis is too enthusiastic about being there himself w/out Brand.

An 'official' verbal agreement.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

It will be interesting to see what baron does. Really there aren't any teams that have cap space, except the clipps and the grizz (Those are two great destinations BTW). The warriors have 10 mil in cap space still, because baron was set to make 18mil this year, so he could go back to the warriors for roughly half of what he was going to make. Either way it suck to be baron.
