I guess I'm just not optimistic on their behalf that they'll have any chance of luring any of the big names who will be available. I thought they'd have a better shot at a Josh Smith or some of the middle-tier FAs next summer.

Completely agree, man. They had some trouble attracting middle-tier free agents this summer and it will probably be more difficult to attract the big names in 2010. Although they will have Davis and Kaman under contract, Thornton, who looks like he's gonna be pretty good , they play in LA, which seems to be one of the favorites destinations for free agents and they'll be able to throw the max at anyone. They'll probably at least try it.

Can't blame them for trying, yeah. You never know. There's a slight chance they could get a guy who looks both the LA market and the idea of putting the Clippers on the NBA map, so to speak.

That's a good point, and with their history of bringing in big names they will probably get someone who makes them a lot lot better...

For Denver it is all about saving luxury tax dollars and they get a $10 mill trade exception they can use for the next year. That could come in handy if they end up doing a salary dump trade of Iverson sometime during the season.
The Clippers needed a big name to save face in the shadow of the Brand deal and get one in Camby. The Clipper paint will be tough to play in with Kaman and Camby down there. And Camby is only a 2 year deal so it doesn't lock up their cap space in that important 2010 offseason. PLUS they only had to give the Nuggets the option to swap 2nd round picks to acquire him. The only way that could have been better for them is if the Nuggets would have taken their broken soda fountain machine instead.

Hell no. I know everyone feels we need a defensive big and Camby can block a few shots...but c'mon man, that would be a horrible trade. Don't underestimate Memo's value as a clutch shooter and our 3rd scorer. Also, Memo never misses games.

Can you imagine watching Memo hit his money shot against us for the Nugs?

It's hard to believe it was even possible, but the Nuggetts took a step backwards defensively, but I can understand why they did the trade to free up some money.

Camby is similar to Boozer in that his numbers exagerrate his actual performance on the court.

Camby's value is obviously much less because he is an injury-prone 34 year old.

what surprises me is that Denver is willing to let Najera go and are betting on the cancer victim Nene as their starting center. Wow, Nene has be soooo injuried ridden, they could really be struggling if Nene doesn't come through this next season.

I wonder how long until we read a similar headline regarding Andrei Kirilenko?

"In return, Denver will have the option to exchange second round picks with the Clippers in 2010".

So is just a salary dump, bacause i figure Denver and LAC not so far in 2009/10 (that means moving up 5-10 spots at best in the 2nd round).

I doubt this change makes the Clippers a playoff team, but it might make Denver a lottery team.
