The question is . . . for how many years? His agent said "It will make everyone very happy". I dont know that that means.

I wasn't worried, but I'm glad they have this done.

My guess is a 4 year deal w/player option for a 5th year.

Locke on 1320 announced it's going to be a 3 year max deal w/player option for 4th year.

My thoughts excately.

I knew this day was coming, and I agree with the 4yr deal with a 5th player option. Deron did a good job negotiating this deal, he sat down with the Front Office and picked their brain about the future of this franchise and we'll know more tomorrow about how he felt leaving those discussions. If he takes the 3yr deal, then he's probably not too thrilled with the LONG term status of this team (ie. Boozeer, Memo, Korver all leaving without being matched), but if it's geared more toward the 4-5 yr deal then we know Deron left those meetings thrilled about our long term future and excited to be apart of what's most important to Deron WINNING

That's the "Lebron" deal. You know, the one that says, "ok, you got 3 years to get me to the finals or I bolt to a bigger market."

It's not a terribly good sign. It's not terribly bad EITHER, but, it does put a lot of pressure on the Jazz to compete in the short term.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Including this upcoming season, that's 4 years locked in, w/ a player option on the 5th, right?

I won't worry about anything down the road. I'll just enjoy the fact that we've got this guy for a good while.

I think its more of keep a competitive team on the floor and dont let boozer and memo go for nothing. I want to win!!!! deal.

Good deal, with this year, and then another 4 years we have a good future going right into his prime. And it's long enough that if we lose either Boozer or Okur the Jazz will have some time to build it back up with some money or trades by that time.

My guess is Deron is a Jazzer for life.

Nice to finally get this done.

3 year +1 player option is not surprising to me in the least. I will say that I think the message is pretty clear that if DW doesn't feel the jazz are competitive in 3 years he is going to leave.

I think we'd be naive to think the only reason DWill signs the 3 year/4th option deal is because he wants to see where the Jazz are and wants to make sure they are winning. We all know DWill wants to win, but think about it, his max deal now is 25% of the team's salary cap. After he finishes the third year of this deal he'll have 7 seasons behind him, making him elegible for the 7+ year vet max deal with is 30% of the team cap. On top of that, the team salary cap is going to increase at least 10 mil over the next 4 years, so Deron signs this deal of course looking to win, but also looking to make another huge payoff again in 4 years.

As long as its with us!! I could care less about the money!!
Now the Jazz need to make some big moves or at least decide on what Boozers future is here. I say get what you can because he may just walk.

Six_Force is exactly right... It's all about the money...

He'll opt out and take a huge 6 year Max deal worth about $160 million...

Being a 7 year vet he'll make more if he opts out than if he stays in his contract.

It is naive to think the only reason DW signs the 3 year is because he is unsure of the team, however, it is just as naive to assume DW is definitely going to re-sign with the jazz. We all know about the money, DW can get more here, the point is, he wants to win and for the jazz to be competitive, IF they aren't then he could leave. Jazz fans are utterly convinced that DW is going to stay for life, all I am saying is that it is VERY rare that a player only stays on one team his whole career. Players like Baron and Brand both opted out and went elsewhere (to the surprise of their fans).
